Apendectomy??????????

I had pre-op today also and forgot to ask my doctor to check out the appendix while in there and take it out if needed!
I would think it would be better to just get it out while the doctor is there then to maybe have another surgery come up Hope everything goes well TC

appendix

My gastrenterologist wanted my gyn to also take my appendix, but my gyn said no way because she didn't want to contaminate the procedure with taking out part of the gut.

Apendectomy??????????

Some docs take the appendix "while they're in there", other's leave it alone if it looks healthy. I don't think there is a right or wrong about it. But I definately DO suggest you ask post-op if they took it or not. It's good to know... because let's say 10 years from now you are in the E.R. for what might be appendicitis type pains.... You'll need to know whether you still have your appendix or not to help with the possible diagnosis.--- (It has happened. I knew of one lady who was being considered for surgery with abdominal pains and rising white blood count.... They had to hunt down her surgery records from years before to see if she'd had her appendix removed or not because they didn't want to open her up if that wasn't the cause.)

I still have mine, but wouldn't have minded if they'd taken it out.

Best wishes for speedy recoveries
