Oozing incision?

I'm 3 weeks post op-everything out. My incision is pink and tender and oozing. Was just having trouble with one side and went to doc two weeks ago and told me to put moist heat on 4 times a day. I did that, but now am having trouble in the middle of the incision. It's pretty sore. Anyone else having this trouble? Thanks!

Oozing incision?

Ouch!

I am three weeks too. I haven't really had problems with my incision, but my right side has been hurting more.

Sorry to hear you are having problems.

Have you been running a temp? Or, called the doctor?

Hope it gets better. Make sure you rest!

Oozing incision?

Thanks for the feedback! I haven't called doctor about this time. I went in last time and felt sort of stupid because I was just told to put moist heat on it. I'm doing that again and if it looks worse on Monday I will go. It's tough when you don't know whether or not you're overreacting or if there is a real problem. I don't have a temp, so I figure that must be a good sign! I hope you are feeling well. This is all so confusing at times!
Thanks again,
Mia

I worry about over reacting too.

Yeah, I have been having such a horrible time with pain, infection, and hematoma. I keep second guessing myself on what to do.

But, right now I would rather over react than ignore something that could be serious.

Oozing incision?

I would call the doctor tomorrow and ask. My incision looked pink, was sore, and tender when I was three-weeks post-op. I also was not running a temp. I was out-of-town and just figured I over did it. I wished I had gone into urgent care right away when I noticed some swelling. I put it off a day or so. But when I got up from watching TV one night, I could barely walk because of the pain and the swelling had gotten worse. Went to the ER, still not running a temp, but the infection started to drain out of the left side of the incision. Turns out I had a staph infection that left a deep wound that I am still treating now. The ER doctor said it was probably an infected lymph node. Anyway, wish I had gone in when I first noticed it.

I know that tomorrow is Sunday, but talk to the on-call doctor.

Take care,
Lisa

Oozing incision?

Please call the hospital, or on call doctor.
I thought my wound was great, then one night watching telly I had an itch, rubbed gently, and my hand was tacky, the front of my nightie was also moist.
I (wrongly) put an absorbent pad over it. Ha when my (second half) staples came out - I split there was a pocket of infection there and when the skin gave (it didn't hurt cuz it was only stuck together not healed over) it felt like a kettle of hot water poured over my legs, hips and belly.
All cleaned up and healing now but had I called the hospital that night - I could have seen my consultant not the one I saw the next day who said there was nothing wrong and to just keep putting the pads on it.

Oozing incision

I too had an oozing incision. I actually started to get my 2nd infection in hospital. I'm now 3 weeks post op and have just finished antibiotics finally and also home nursing for my wound. It had to be cleanned and packed daily by a nurse who came to my home, as the wound needed to be kept open so it could drain and heal from the inside up. Its still oozing a little but now nearly closed up. I too had bad pain on one side...this was due to infection and has now only just started to subside. It too was a nasty staph infection. Get your wound checked...there is no such thing as being too careful when it comes to your health. They should do a swab of the ooze and send this off to pathology to rule out any bug infection. I had swabs taken immediately to steer me on the correct form of antibiotics. I'm surprised your doctor hasn't done this already. Insist on a swab!
Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

Oozing incision?

Your doctor should have an on call number that you may call. Remember they get paid anyway and that is what they are there for. Do not worry about bugging him if you are leaking or oozing then call this is not something to play with unless it has been checked out by a doctor. Let us know what happens after you talk to the doctor.

Oozing incision?

My incision "leaked" for 2 weeks. I went to the dr and he said it was fine, just clean it with peroxide and keep gauze over it. Well it still is sticky looking in that one spot. I developed a hematoma there and the skin didnt quite meet up properly so the scar is gonna be UGLY. The actual skin is still open but healed underneath. DH is very upset about this and truthfully, I worry too. I also called the dr this week because I developed a red area directly underneath this spot. They said if no fever, no yellow drainage, then it was ok. We are watching it very closely but I may just have it checked again this week. It really grosses me out just to look at it. Hubby wants them to cut it open again and restitch it ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, NOT NO BUT HECK NO. Let them cut his tummy open!!!!!!!! I can live with the scar before they chop on me again LOL.

If you are really worried, call the dr. The other ladies are right. That is what they get paid for.
good luck

Oozing incision?

Thanks for all of the feedback ladies! I am calling the dr first thing tomorrow morning (Monday). I don't know why I feel so silly. You are all right--it's my health. And they DO get PAID. DH doesn't seem to be concerned--he has been cleaning the wound and putting neosporin and gauze on it and he keeps saying "it looks better." I think it may be wishful thinking on his part. Poor guy has put up with a lot this year. I was diagnosed with MS in January, we got married in September and now the TAH. He's a Saint! I'll let you all know what the doc says about this. Thanks again! This site is an absolute godsend. I don't know anyone who has had a hyster and I am grateful to talk to all of you!
