Family Support?

It will be a week tomorow. I've been home since Friday the 19th. I had my uterus removed because of several fibroids that made my Uterus the size of volleyball and weighed 3 lbs. I have not felt well for some time because of it and my only option was removal. (Had an emergency blood transfusion in May because of it) My husband is not getting use the idea that he has to take care of me for a while. He accepts the idea but is struggling. What suprises me is my 16 yr old daughter who would help any group/person/cause but is treating me like dirt. It seems that I am faking it for attention and fights me tooth and nail for assistance. If I do get her to help she complains the whole time. This intern starts an arguement with Step-Dad and I wish I never came home. I am not allowed to return to work until January. Has anyone had what I had and How long until I can function without the help of others?

Family Support?

Hi Tracy

I went through the same thing with my four teenage boys and DH. I did everything right off because they simply sat there and didn't attempt to help me. I refused to keep begging them to help, so I ended up doing normal chores myself. This caused me to become depressed and feeling guilty. I felt like I didn't deserve this chance to become healthy once again.I had been sick for years, but always pushed myself to go on.
I would hold a family meeting before it gets out of hands. You surely don't want to go through what I did. It was awful!!
Once they realized I was full blown depressed they started helping out more. It was really too late then. I was physically better, but emotionally ruined and really hit rock bottom. It took me some months to pull out of it. Thank goodness my gyn cared enough to put me on antidepressants. They helped alot, along with talking to two psychologists at work.
Please talk with your family and just tell them how it is. Maybe print out the do's and don'ts that have been posted on this site and tape it on the fridge. That should get their attention.

Take care and I hope things get better for you

Family Support?

Can you get the daughter to read the recommended recovery activities on here? Or can you talk to her and explain that you can't reach, bend, twist, or lift anything due to the internal stitches? My 18 year old was not a lot of help, but she did take her cues from her father, who let her know I was not to do ANYTHING, especially go up and down the stairs, for at least a week. Can you get your husband to get you items that will keep, that you can have in your recovery room, for meals so you don't have to ask for help? Some bottles of juice, or even those boxes, would help, along with water, and some fresh fruit. The more independent you can be from asking your daughter, the happier you will be. I don't understand why they are like that, but mine too would help anyone...but me.

Whatever you do, do not over do it just because your family is not being supportive. Please rest and allow your body to heal.
