5 months post-op and having complications

I am 5 months post-op fora Hysterectomy for Endometrial Cancer 1C. I had 25 external radiation and 3 internals. The last couple of weeks I have swelling of the legs - one foot and the groin area. The doctor is sending me for a Cat Scan tomorrow and I can't stop crying because I can't believe this is happening. I can't believe at this point 5 months post-op I am still having complications to the hysterectomy. Any similar stories. I would greatly appreciate and advice I can get to calm down. I can't see myself going through anymore. I just can't handle it.

Hi (((Gio48))) I'm sorry you're still having trouble after going through so much. Did you have any lymph nodes removed with your surgery? What you describe sounds like lymphedema, which can occur after a hyst with lymph node removal. Basically, the mechanism for fluid removal from the legs is removed, and so the fluid has nowhere to go and backs up in the legs, causing swelling.

Here are some links about lymphedema from our Resources directory:

I'm glad your DR is taking this seriously and having the CAT scan done to try to find out the cause. Let us know what you find out, OK? Good luck!

s,
-Linda

(((Gio48)))

I'm sorry that you are having this complication, but glad that your doctor is following up with tests.

It's so normal and typical for you to have worries about your cancer. Around here, we affectionately refer to that as Cancerhead and all of us suffer with it from time to time.

Hopefully, your CT will show nothing unusual and it will simply be a case of lymphedema. If that's the case, please ask for a referral to see a physical therapist. Many specialize in the area of lymphedema, and they can offer support and suggestions to deal with the situation.

Good luck! Please let us know what you find out!
