Pain Meds?

I am having a TAH in March and am concerned about taking pain medicine. I have had them prescribed twice before for other minor surgeries, and was not able to take them because they made me sooo sick! I was able to get by with over the counter meds those times, but since this is so much bigger and worse a procedure, I am wondering if I will make it without any pain medicines? Does anyone know if there are alternatives, or if it will be too bad for OTC drugs?

Pain Meds?

I cannot take codeine and had never had any other pain meds until this procedure. I was given fentanyl in my epidural pump and it did not make me nauseous. I also had torodol shots which are some sort of heavy duty non-steriodal anti inflammatory drug. When I was switched to oral pain meds they gave me percoset. MADE ME VERY SICK. I finally had success with vicodin. I could not have survived the first week without it, but some people do fine with just 800 mg. ibuprofen. I am now only taking the ibuprofen occasionally.

You should talk to your doctor since this is an issue for you. It may be the case that you would be fine with motrin, but if not, you should have a back up drug if you can find one that will work.
