7weeks post op - what bad luck!!
Well I finally returned to work last week and did my normal 3 day work week. I felt great and really felt no different to before my TAH. I have had a remarkable recovery and even returned to my rock and roll classes a few nights ago.
THEN.....can you believe it I tripped up on a mess of garden hose and fell twisting my foot and breaking it in 5 different places!!!! Ouch!! I would go through 10 hysterectomies one after the other instead of this experience.
Now there is talk of surgery and pins but I get the full information tomorrrow at the orthopaedic surgeons rooms.
I am just lucky that I did no internal damage when I fell and that I was fully healed.
Anyway, I am now on crutches for 6-8 weeks and in plaster. I am not allowed to weight bear for all that time. I have pulled every single muscle in my body using those awful crutches!!
So for all of you out there getting over your hysterectomies - please be careful! The pain you are going through is nothing compared to what I have had in the past 48 hours. I now also have the dreadful discomfort of a cast in a heat wave!

Yikes
That sounds like an awful experience! I can empathize with you as I've had 5 surgeries on one foot alone, resulting in a heavy cast for a total of almost 4 months in the past 3 years. Yuk
It's definitely no fun, but recovering from the hyst wasn't a walk in the park for me either. That would be a toss-up in my book.
I feel for you, but I'm so glad you didn't harm yourself internally in terms of your surgical recovery. As for the foot situation, you may find that it heals faster if you *do* proceed with the internal fixation, (screws, plates, etc). Let us know what the orthopedic surgeon says after your appt tomorrow.
Good luck and please keep us posted on your progress.

Oh, Sister, I am SO sorry to hear that!
Ouch!
I have never broken a bone (knock wood), and I hope I never do. But the weird thing is that lately I HAVE been extremely careful nevertheless, because I have thought about how falling and breaking an arm or leg or whatever else would only exacerbate the problem...
I do hope that you heal quickly and that you are paid for your time off work (I wasn't)!!

Hi
What rotten luck!!! I am sorry this happened to you.
I know about garden hoses. I was just coming in the door from the castle when my sandal slid under the hose and it got inbetween my foot and the sandal bottom. I slid, jerked and almost fell. I got quite sore inside and my incision was open and bleeding that night. I am thinking that is what caused my hematoma.
I hope all goes well at your appt. tomorrow. My sister broke her ankle years ago and had the surgery inserting the plate and screws. She healed quickly and was pain free for the most part.
I hope your recovery goes smooth. Just look at it as one small obstacle to overcome on your route to your wonderful new flo free, pain free life.We ladies are made tough!!
please let us know what the dr. has to say tomorrow.

thank's for all your supportive replies. I have been quite down the past few days and am hoping for a good outcome.
The Surgeon saw me this morning and has ordered an MRI which I'll have later in the week. He will then decide whether to operate and pin the broken joints.
I had never had surgery before my TAH and now 8 weeks later I may be going back for more! I can't believe it!!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I really do feel for you. I have spent about 9 mnths in the last three years in a cast for my right ankle(two surgeries) and then 4 more surgeries (complete with crutches) on my left knee. Crutches stink even without a hyst. Every thing will hurt for the first week using crutches but you will develop callouses (sp) on your hands and that will help alot. Make sure that your crutches DO NOT come all the way up under your armpits. You must use your arms not your arm pits to support your weight. If you use your arm pits, you can do serious nerve damage. Didnt know if anyone told you that before, just trying to be helpful. If you need any tips and things around the house while on crutches, pm me. I am old hand at it now.
good luck
missy
