No Bowel Sensation

I had a TAH 4 weeks ago. Sometimes I go normally, sometimes I have 1 to 4 hours of pain and then I have to go and the pain goes away. I've realized in the last couple of days that I can go right when the pain starts. The problem? I have no sensation of having to have a bowel movement - just abdominal cramps similar to period cramps. Is this my new way of knowing that I have to go? Anyone else have this?

No Bowel Sensation

Hi Willowb

I am sorry you have to go through this. After going through our surgeries, none of us deserve to have more complications.

I would definately call your dr. tomorrow. Bowels are nothing to mess around with.
I had a terrible time going the first 4 weeks(and still do at 6 1/2 months). I had to strain terribly and it really hurted my incisions. Finally my dr. ordered a cat scan, which showed I had a bowel impaction.I was so constipated that I really didn't have any sensation either, just the terrible bloating. My abdoman was so distented and sore.
I don't know why you don't have sensation, but it does sound like a question for the dr. I do know that our intestines shift around in there once the uterus is removed. Some of the sisters, including me have had to undergo further testing for bowel complications.
I hope you find some answers and get some relief soon. I know how you must be feeling.

No Bowel Sensation

I have a different sensation also. I get a cramp, which is different than the old way it used to feel when I had to go. But I've been using the stool softener/laxative combination pills since I came home from the surgery.
