Joint pain?

Hello fellow survivors --

It will be months since my surgery on the 6th of December. Lately I have been having servere joint pain. Has anyone every heard of this? It especially hits my knees and hips occasionally my tibia bones,

I have been given vagifem for the dryness and a testosteron creme for the libidio or lack of but I am awaiting it from the mail away pharmacy so I have not taken that yet. I am on Lexapro but notice the time of this posting 3:42am, NO Sleep from the pain and the hubby's snoring LOL

THanks, and yes I will check with my Doctor but I thought someone here might know.

Hi Loraine

Yes i have joint pain. In fact my right knee joint is getting so 'creaky' that i have to have an anthroscopy (sp) to see what is going on. That was supposed to happen in November but i chickened out and now it is rescheduled for February. I had no problems with any of my joints before my ops in Jan 2003 but around about 5 months afterwards i started to get problems. I am also stiff in the morning but recover reasonably well after a steaming hot bath. My GP and gyn/onc says its normal for this to happen in some women after having our kind of surgeries. I regularly take ibuprofren which helps a lot and im on a low dose of hrt. Ovestin cream is the best, i think, for dryness.

Hope this helps
Take care

Joint pain?

My knees have been absolutely killing me in the mornings and just plain obnoxious during the day. I tend to have knee problems anyway, and having fibromyalgia doesn't help the joint pain, but I"ve wondered how much of that pain is chemo/cancer related.

I should probably go back to the rheumatologist but I"m just plain sick of specialists right now.

Joint pain?

I recall having some pain especially in my hips shortly after I completed my radiation treatments. I think part of the problem was being thrown into surgical menopause as a result of my radical hysterectomy. I've also read and heard that radiation to the pelvis can cause bone thinning increasing the risk of fracture in the hips.

I was determined to do something to strengthen my bones without prescription drugs, and I no longer have any pain whatsoever. I'm not sure exactly what caused the pain to go away, but here are the things I did. I started doing yoga more frequently. It resulted in a reduction in my stress level, caused me to sleep better, and increased muscle strength, flexibility and balance. I feel so much better when I do yoga. I do weight training and aerobic exercise, including step aerobics, kickboxing and sculpt and tone classes. The more I move the better I feel.

I take 1,000 to 1,500 mg. of calcium a day, in 500 mg. increments two or three times a day. If I eat yogurt for lunch, I don't take calcium, because your body can only absorb a limited amount of calcium in one sitting. I take 500 to 750 mg. of magnesium with the calcium, in 250 mg. increments, with each 500 mg. of calcium I take (your body needs the magnesium in combination with the calcium to effectively absorb the calcium).

I take glucosamine and chondroitin twice a day, with my breakfast and dinner. My cat who has arthritis and was barely able to walk several months ago,was prescribed glucosamine and chondroitin by the vet, and her condition has dramatically improved. I also take 1,000 mg. of fish oil and 400 IU vitamin E a day.

Of course, you would need to make sure you checked with your doctor before embarking upon any physical exercise program or nutritional supplementation regimen.

Take care,

MoeKay
