Lactose Intolerance, anyone???

I had my surgery on November 8th, everything seems to be going well, aside from the pure exhaustion from the whole ordeal, I started having lactose intolerance!! I have a glass of milk, 15-20 minutes later, I'm in the bathroom. My mom bought me a milkshake, I had 1/3 of it and I'm back in the bathroom. Has anyone had this happen to them after their surgery? Is this common? As Long as I stay away from milk, there is no problem. Although, I love milk!! Help!!!

Lactose Intolerance, anyone???

I've had lactose intolerance for as long as I can remember, but only with milk. If I drank a glass, I couldn't venture too far from home because I never knew if it would constipate me or give me diarrhea. And if you want to see a belly grow three times it's size in a matter of minutes, hand me a glass of milk, grab a bowl of popcorn, and enjoy the show.
I can eat anything else with no problems.

It used to be that I could tolerate a bowl of cereal, but since the surgery, even that little bit of milk lands me in the bathroom with terrible cramps and diarrhea.
I'm also having problems with eating corn now. It affects me the same as the milk.

I realize I'm still early in my recovery, so I'm hoping this will eventually work itself out. My mom had IBS and divert and she was miserable.

I've never tried any of the OTC remedies for lactose intolerance, but I've heard others say they do help.
It may be an option for you.
