Estrogen and Weight Gain

Its been two 1/2 years since my TAH/BSO and I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 6 months after my hyster. I was placed on Synthroid and have been monitored every 3-6 mos for the thyroid. Currently taking 100 mcgs of Synthroid (started on 200 mcgs! and have been gradually reducing the dosage per my doctor). I take .625 of Premarin and also, take 10 mgs of Lexapro. Now that the meds are out of the way....I have gained 60 lbs ! I am horrified! My eating habits are no different and I am currently attempting the South Beach Diet and haven't lost much of anything even though I have been diligent in my efforts. I gained about 30 lbs after started the Premarin and then, in May of 2004, I was started the Lexapro and have gained another 30 lbs! I just want to  when I look in the mirror.

I am thinking I should attempt to stop the Premarin and Lexapro to see if I could lose some of this weight. Has anyone had any experience like this? Does quitting HRT make weight lose easier? I am 42 and looking awful!

Estrogen and Weight Gain

i know for myself that any of the antidepressants make me gain weight. I also gain about 5lbs when i am on hormones. When i came off of the anti-depressants and went on low carb i started losing. then when i went on hormones i stopped and gained the 5lbs. i am not on anything other than vagifem and vitamins right now and so far ( 1 yr) i have lost 46lbs. I still have 1 ovary, so i don't always need the hormones because i am flucuating so much.

Weight gain is HORRIBLE. and for those of us that gain it so fast it makes your head spin, well even 5lbs is alot. i hope you figure out what to do and good luck with the diet.

Estrogen and Weight Gain

I have no excuse with the thyroid, but my doc just cut me down to estratest half strength to try and help with my own inexplicable weight gain. I am hopeful we get some insight here!

Estrogen and Weight Gain

I am also on Estratest (full strength) I am also having problems with my weight. I can't seem to lose and have gained in the past couple of months. It seems my appetite is out of control, espically for sweets but I am afraid to just stop my hormones. If anyone has an answer I am definately open.

estrogen & weight gain

I too have had weight gain. About 20 pounds since my surgery in Feb 2003. I have quit taking my estrates full strength and thought I'd try going with out anything. I am supposed to see my ob/gyn sometime this month. I weaned my self down. I haven't see any major side effects as of yet. I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens. Good Luck Ladies
