Is hysterectomy an option?

I "stumbled" across this website and I'm so glad I did. I have been reading and learning alot.

A little bit of history; I'm 33 and had a tubal after I had my last son was born 10 yrs. ago. I had my first bout of cervical cancer when I was 22. I have had a conization, 3 freezings (forget the technical term) and they also found pre-cancerous cells on the vaginal wall that they cut and burned.

I am experiencing pain most of the month, but it gets EXTREME during my menstrual cycle (landed me in the ER this past Thursday night), heavy/irregular periods, painful intercourse...the list goes on and on. I had a pelvic by my primary doc and was told that my cervix was "hard" (new one for me, never heard that term used before!) and that it had some abnormal areas. The pap came back ok though. When I was in the ER, the doc there ordered a pelvic ultrasound and I'm still waiting on those results. I'm fighting with my insurance company trying to find an ob/gyn that will take my insurance.

When I do find one and hopefully find out what is wrong, my feeling is regardless of what is wrong, I want to have a hysterectomy and also have my cervix removed. I've had more than one bout with cancer because of HPV or whatever it is that has made me so lucky and it's not like I can have anymore kids. I just feel like I can't keep tempting fate and winning, that one of these times I won't be so lucky. Thoughts, opinions?

Is hysterectomy an option?

Hi,
With your history of cancer, a hyst does sound like a viable option for you. I wish you luck in your search for a doctor. You may want to put a copy of this post on the Cancer Concerns board. You might find others who have been through this, that will be able to give you some good advice!
