A Princess after a TVH...
It all started in 1991 with a tumor on my right ovary..and by 1995 I had 7 surgeries (Laparoscopes) that took out a lot of endo, my appendix, and my right ovary....Fast forward to now...
Dec 6, 2004...I go in for a TVH (taking my cervix/uterus and leaving my one ovary I have).
I arrive at the hospital at 1:45pm like I was suppose to. I got in my lovely gown (buns hanging out!! hehehe), weighed, asked a gazillion questions, and signed more papers. They came and took blood while I was in there, too. Then my hubby and I got to wait about an hour.
At 2:45pm they came to get me for Pre-Op. (surgery scheduled for 3:45pm).
In Pre-Op they put these nifty things on my legs that blow up every so many minute to help prevent blood clots, started my I.V. (only took 1 try!!!!), and I got to talk to the Anesthesiologists (sp??) and my Dr about the surgery. They told me they were giving me some "sleepy" medicine and started moving my bed...and that is all I rememeber...
Next thing I know I am being woke up by a nurse in recovery and told I am going up to my room now, they'd call my hubby to let him know. I was not in much pain at all. No worse than when I went in (start period REALLY bad day before)
Got to my room and was still very sleepy. Hubby came in for a while and I just told him to go home..I wanted to just sleep!
I had NO vaginal packing, NO epidural in...HOORAY!!!!!!
My pain was getting a tad worse so I opted for some vicoden. This seemed to really help at that time. Sometime during the night I need a shot of morphine b/c the pain was a bit worse and with not eating it'd irritate my belly to eat too many vicoden....
I didn't sleep really well, thanks to those things on my legs. I am a really light sleeper and they pumped up like every couple minutes...
Around 3am I asked if I could walk, adn I did!!! After that I got to get up by myself when I wanted to!
The next morning I could order what ever I wanted to for breakfast, so I ordered fruit, etc..But couldn't eat a lot. I never eat a lot after surgery.
Later that day I started throwing up..sensitive stomach hated the vicoden! I was like that for 7 hours before I griped enough for them to give me something, so they gave me a shot in the butt fo Phenergan and I talked htem into getting me some Maalox! they switched me to Darvacet adn that really helped!! they kept threatening me with an IV, becasue they had taken mine out that morning..but this shot and Maalox really helped!!!
I slept for like 4 hours straight, thank goodness and it was 4:30am..and I was HUNGRY. I ate some vanilla pudding and graham crackers..yummy.
I got up that morning and my Dr came to see me..said I could go home!!!!! YAY. I got my shower, ate a little breakfast, and called hubby...
I am now home, been home since yesterday morning. Am not on much pain medicine at all and doign good. Taking it easy and drinkign lots of water!!! (and watching the gassy foods!!!)
the one thing I REALLY needed was CHAPSTICK....My mouth/lips were soooooooo dry. Do not forget your chapstick!
Here were the things I found useful:
CHAPSTICK
TOOTHBRUSH/TOOTHPASTE
SHAMPOO, CONDITIONER, SOAP,
BRUSH, COMB, PIK (WHATEVER YOU USE)
REALLY LOOSE CLOTHING!!! (underwear 2x's larger than normal!!!)
PHONE CARD/PHONE NUMBERS
PAPER/PEN (in case you need to write something down..)
I made it through with flying colors, the waiting was the hardest part.....I am only on day 3 of Post Op and feel pretty good already..walkign slow and not doing much...but I am on my way!!!!!!!!!!
