Laparascopic hysterectomy

Hi ladies. I am new to this site and am posting my first message. I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I have to tell you that I was SCARED to death!!! I was going to 1 dr and she told me that I was not a candidate for that type of surgery because my uterus was too large. I was told about another dr that specialized in these types of hysterectomy's. Anyhow I went for a 2nd opinion, was given a depo-lupron shot and 3 mos later had the surgery. Im totally still amazed because it was a piece of cake!! I had 2 c-sections and they were far worse than THIS! Everything was removed thru the belly button and that was the ONLY discomfort I had! It wasnt pain....just annoying...
Im curious to know if there are others out there that experienced this type of surgery as well! Im wondering when it is safe to excercise too....doing ab excercises.. I NEED to start doing something!!! My dr said cardio excercise is fine but I cant remember what he said about weights...etc...
Take care...and happy recovery to all!!

Laparascopic hysterectomy

Hi Debbss,

Wow...I had a a very similar story!!! My 1st Dr. wanted to do a TAH due to the size of my fibroids. She said I was not a candidate for a laparoscopic surgery.

I got a 2nd opinion and he put me on (3) months of lupron also, to shrink my fibroids enough for my LSH. At 8 months, I am still very pleased with my surgery results!!

On exercising...just go with what your Dr. and your body say. I go to the gym regularly and I started back at 6 weeks. I did the stairmaster and some light weights and waited until 8 weeks to start any ab work. I found walking the best exercise for the first (6) weeks. Just go at your own speed.

Best wishes,

Mary

Laparascopic hysterectomy

I'm glad your surgery went well! I also seeked 3 opinions and found the right doctor for me that qualified me for the LSH. I'm a little nervous, but after reading your post and similar ones, I'm at ease with my decision. Best of luck to you!

checkpoints

to the post op board!

I am very glad things worked out for you and that you are having a good recovery.

If you go to the top of the forum you will see "Checkpoints" and if you click on that you will find great information about each part of the recovery process. I am reading them just to learn something!

You did just what the Hystersister's checkpoints say--get a second, third opinion. As many opinions as you need to feel comfortable with what you are doing. I actually got three opinions and they all said I needed a TAH. And I know they all did the other options of surgery because my friends had other kinds done by them.

So I felt really comfortable with my decision too, knowing I explored all the options.

I agree with the "Listen to you body" and listen to your doctor. I would not start doing strenous exercises like ab workouts until your doctor has examined you and given you the go ahead.
You have the rest of your life to do crunches, you only have this time to heal.
I was given the go ahead to do everything at 4 weeks post op-swimming, biking, etc. I waited a little longer to do the weight machines at the Y, and started out at a much lighter weight than I was at before surgery.

's to you!
