Will I ever be all pooped out? Any suggestions?

Day 4 for me and I had my first Bowl Movement last night. OUCH! Now, I feel like that is all I have been doing all day. I am SO careful about what I eat and my stools are soft, but MERCY! I can't take it any more! Any suggestions on diet or anything that will stop the frequency of the painful BMs?

Day 4 for me, too

Hi,

I had my surgery on Friday, and was becoming frantic, about being unable to have a BM.

I have been taking stool softners (the Walgreens equivalent of Colace) since Sunday morning, and was beginning to think that I wasn't ever going to have a BM. I'd even bought pseudo Phillip's Milk of Magnesia tablets, to try to help things along, but *finally* at 2:00 a.m. this morning, I had my first bowel movement and it was very, very mild, and also not a very large BM. I've had three more since then, all of which have been easy, and I've been very thankful for it.

I didn't have to take the laxatives, nor drink any prune juice, although I have been eating oatmeal for breakfast each day, in addition to taking the stool softners, and trying to increase my fluid intake. I've also been taking Gas-X, to help with the gas.

I hope this helps.

If you have too frequent, soft stools maybe you're watching the diet too closely. Add back your fiber cereal for bulk or whatever you have eliminated. It's a real balancing act. And if you're on pain meds they are constipating.
I have bowel discomfort/pain for gas, soft or hard stool. Saw my doctor yesterday and she said that the bowel was displaced during the surgery and now has to learn the new twists and turns. She told me this could last up to 5 months and to continue with the stool softener and eating smaller (less amount ) meals more frequently.
I think the bowel has been 40% of my discomfort. I did not have any movement until day 8 after taking milk of magnesia. I delivered concrete and did alot of cursing.

Hope you find your way. I've never thought about or talked about bowels so much in my life!

Wow...did we ever think this is what we would feel comfortable talking about on the internet? ha ha...I am on day 8 from a TAH and have gone several times only for it to build up again...I feel pretty good most of the time but when it builds up again with only small amounts of food, it sure is uncomfortable...I have found that walking around helps alot and gas aid pills help too....Unfortunately what goes in must come out!! Good luck to all and let's just pray for relief soon!!
