Not Sure What To Expect
Hi. I had a TAH on Nov. 25/04. It is natural to be nervous and scared.
Even if all your questions are answered, you will probably still feel anxious about it.
Before my surgery I was on the internet all the time trying to find out the pros and cons of it all. Sometimes you can get far too much information for your own good!!
During my pre-op appointment, the nurse went over a lot of information (they are trained to get into it all), spent time with me with regards to my emotional state going into this and what my support system will be once I get home. After that appointment, I felt a lot better! Still nervous, though, but less anxious.
Let the nurse or whoever it is that is doing the appointment guide you through her information. Any questions you might have will probably be triggered by her information session.
I am three weeks post op and feeling stronger each day. Went for my first walk to the mail box today and felt pretty good. It is major surgery and all I can say is that you need to take the full 8 weeks or more to recover...you need a good support system at home (husband, mom, aunt, neighbour...whoever!), and you will be fine!
Good luck and we'll see you on the Post op boards!!
Hugs,
Sarah from Canada

Questions
Hi Tamijo222,
There is a ton of information on the internet, probably more info than you care to read, but it is informative. This site has some great information and a list of questions to ask. I printed the questions off, found some more on-line at another site and added some of my own. 40 questions in all. I had my pre-admit appt. today at the hospital and they could only answer about 10 of them, so I have an appt. with the Dr. tomorrow to get the rest of the answers. My advice is to just keep asking questions until you feel more comfortable about anything bothering you and less anxious about it all. Of course all the anxiety isn't going to go away, but the more you know about what's going to take place, the better you'll feel.
Keep the faith! Time will fly by and before you know it, this will all be a distant memory.
God Bless, Cndrella

Not Sure What To Expect
Take a deep breath!
I wish you luck on your upcoming surgery. I just had my TVH On Dec 6th. I am doing really well. No pain, just some pressure now.
The surgery went really well. I woke up in "some" pain, but it actally was no worse than a really bad period. My TOM was really bad for me every month.
The recovery is so much easier than I expected! I hope yours goes the same way. Just remember to take a deep breath at times right now, for me the waiting was the hardest part!!!!

Not Sure What To Expect
I had a TVH on Fri, December 10, and feel great. I have not had any pain at all since getting home. In fact, I had no pain in the hospital. Everything went smoothly and I hope your does too. The hardest part is the waiting.

Not Sure What To Expect
Hi Tamijo,
I am 12 weeks post op. Waiting anxiously is the hardest part for most of us. I remember those days, it wasnt coming fast enough, and then it was coming too fast. My recovery was slower than some, faster than others. It is normal to be afraid of the unknown and to fear it! On this side of it, it almost feels silly to remember how afraid I was, but it is ok, and understandable. No ones fears are silly or unfounded going in.
I will remember you and have a glass of champagne for you to celebrate your rise to Princesshood!! Hugs and remember BREATHE!!

I can't get into CHristmas this year :(
My surgery is on 1/5. I am the mother of 3, one being a 13 yr old. I have 2 grandchildren and a good life.
I normally LOVE Christmas. It is my favorite time of year. Every year we have a HUGE New Years Eve party.
This year....
I have this feeling of doom looming over me. I think about this dang surgery 24/7. I'm not into anything anymore. I am so scared.
I am not depressed so to speak. Does anyone else have this feeling? I am not trying to bring anyone down I am just so bummed out about this. I swear everyone in the owrld knows about this because I can't stop talking about it. They all have been supportive. Please help me to get over this horrible feeling so I can enjoy the holidays.
Thanks to you wonderful women,
Pat

24/7
Hi Pat,
I can totally relate to not being able to think about much else and to the fact that my mind is working overtime and completely blotting out the spirit of Christmas. Doing alot of positive self-talk helps. I look at it as my own inner-counseling, where my logical side keeps my emotional side from taking over. It helps.
Christmas is usually my favorite time of year too. So much so, that we have Christmas traditions that start with Advent and end with 3 Kings Day in January. But this year I have felt the same sorta gloomy doom that you described. Not really depression, more anxiety than anything. For me, I've decided to allow myself to feel how I feel. I could take great measures to cover up my feelings, and pretend that I'm my normal merry self, but then I wouldn't really be true to myself or anyone else. My husband says that when you do that, you cheat others from feeling needed and being able to comfort you, help you, or whatever it is that you are needing at the time. It's okay to be scared if that's what you feel. Just don't let it take complete control of your life. It's just a "bump" in the road on the journey of life. Try to keep the BIG picture in mind.
Remember this is YOUR Christmas too. It doesn't have to be a carbon copy of every other year. If it makes you feel better to try something new, do it. Turn the gloom into a spirit of adventure. You still have a few weeks before your surgery, so take this time and see how many great new things you can try... by yourself, with your children, grandchildren, etc. Even small things can be an adventure. Besides if your focusing on trying out some new activity, your mind can take a mental break from the pre-op stress. Keep the Faith! Your going to be fine!
God Bless, Cndrella
