Silver nitrate applied at 3 week post op visit now bleeding and some cramping Normal?

I have been doing very well, not alot of bleeding at all.

Yesterday when I went for my 3 week post op Doc appliced silver nitrate to internal suture site at top of vigina. He warned me there would be some black looking discharge but I am also having some cramping and now I am having some bleeding.

Is this normal? I dont know if it is from the silver nitrate or just from being checked! I know he was very careful I'm sure not to disturbe anything but I guess he could have.

Of course the office is closed today-Monday for the Holiday!!

Has anyone else had bleeding after the silver treatment or the first check after surgery?

Thanks

Shelley

Hi, Shelley Sorry you're feeling yucky from the silver nitrate. I had that applied to some excessive scar tissue from an epiziotomy many, many years ago. Drs use the stuff to make scar tissue look and heal better. It does sting a bit. But things should feel better tmr. If the bleeding and cramping don't go away, you can try checking with an ER nurse just to ease your mind over the holiday weekend. My six-week checkup is next Thursday and I'm hoping they don't need to use silver nitrate. I guess it wasn't a pleasant experience as I'm remembering something that happened 22 years ago. Kick your feet up and rest the rest of the day and maybe try some OTC pain medicine for the cramping. Take care -- Marcie

Marcie,

Thanks, that info was very helpful, I never thought to look there!! Makes me feel better knowing that it is not unusual to have the cramping.
