Anybody heard of

I had my TAH/BSO November 7. Immediately my doctor put me on Premarin 1.25. Sounded high to me, but didn't want to argue at the time.

When I went to the clinic for my 6-wk post op, I saw another gyn. She couldn't tell me why 1.25 vs .625, but was willing to do almost whatever I wanted. I was surprised by how little this gyn knew about HRT, compounding pharmacies, etc., especially since she's newly graduated or however you refer to a new physician just going into practice.

As I talked about the possibility of a lower dose of estrogen and some progesterone, she came up with this new drug called Activella. According to the package it contains 1 mg of estradiol and .5 mg of norethindrone acetate. I've heard good things about estradiol, but the norethindrone acetate is a synthetic progesterone I believe. Anyway, I've got lots of samples, but I've hesitated taking them until I know more about them. In the meantime, I've made an appointment with the Family Practicioner, who I think may be better at getting me off to a better HRT program than this gyn. (I have a history with my Family Practitioner and just started with the ob/gyn clinic due to my ovarian mass which resulted in the tah/bso.)

Anybody have any information to share about Activella?

Dear {{DJD}}
I'm sorry, I don't know anything about Activella, but I just wanted to send you some {{hugs}} because I know how this jungle can feel.

It does make a HUGE difference if you are getting too much estrogen...that much I DO know. On the pull-down menu, there is a post about the symptoms of too much/too little estrogen and progesterone, if you haven't read it yet.

I hope things go well for you. God bless.

The side effects from synthetic progestrone (progestin) can be very troublesome. I've tried both synthetic and bioidentical progestrone cream. The progestrone cream is wonderful. I've not heard of Activella though. As you know from reading this site - every woman here is different and requires different dosages and different formulas. It is trial and error (unfortunately). I think you are wise to see your family doc too. The more heads you have thinking about your situation - the better. I hope your journey through the jungle is short and not too unpleasant. I hope you find the path to "the other side" soon! Hugs and prayers.
