I took the plunge

Hello Ladies,
Well I did it, I bought myself a clothing hanger! In the form of a stationary bike! So now, i promised hubby it was not money wasted, but I would use it. And i am assuming he will want it used for more than a clothes hanger!! So.....How do I start. I got on and pedalled already, for about a minute, and am pooped! I love court TV so am going to throw on Judge Judy and pedal my butt to her nagging, screechy voice!! Is that pushing it too hard for the first bit? I also am going to find my nice lil rectangular pillow, they do not make bike seats for fluffy butts I find!!

Hugs to you all, any advice from anyone, would be so greatly appreciated....

I took the plunge

Kat, congratulations on your new stuck bike! I have a love/hate relationship with mine.

I find it works best for me to set a goal in miles, rather than time. But I know of others who give themselves a time limit.

One thing you don't want to do is over do it at first - you will pay! I speak from experience - over did it the first day and paid for it by spending the night awake with legs that hurt so bad I could hardly move them!

It would probably be a good idea to keep the settings at their lowest for the first week or so. Then try varying the speeds and the incline if yours has this feature.

I have friends who read while riding their bikes but I've never mastered this. I just crank the music and go for it. I don't reset my odometer and like to fantasize about where in the country I'd be if it were a real bike and I had gone that many miles.

Try a gel seat. They have them for about seven bucks at Walmart.

Most of all - have fun with it!

I took the plunge

Kat,
Congratulations on your new purchase. I would take it slow at first and gradually build up. Don't overdo or push yourself. I'm going to start walking and will do so slowly.

I took the plunge

Hi Ladies,
Ok you are all gonna think Im spacey!! Its going back..However I am not giving up!! I am going to invest more and get meself a Gazelle strider thingy!! I cannot ride a bike cuz I get a sore you know what, you know where, due to the weight. This bike seems to be choppy when you pedal it, and the guy told me to bring it back. I do like the looks of the Gazelle and it is low impact. Kim, you may want to look into it. Apparently you stand in one spot and move!! hehe DS is quite ticked it is going back, and i looked at him and said to his skinny lil body "When you are fat and need to lose weight, I will buy a bike, until then, if I need to lose weight, I will get what I want!!" He is all of 120 lbs, and the doc even asked if he was weight training. I dont know where the body come from but it sure werent mom!!

Yes, I will start slow, I gotta worry bout the old ticker given in. It never has to work very hard so will take it easy, and with this new toy, I can walk or I can run!! This will be much like a treadmill but will also be using my arms...

Thanks for the advice ladies!!
Hugs

I took the plunge

I've been working out loads ,and no matter how often I try to ride that dam bike, my whole area goes numb, and its the weirdest feeling when its all comming to, than i get pressure internally, so I've given up on the dam bike, and love my olliptical, trampoline and pool. Swimming is the best, and totally pain free

I took the plunge

Hi!
I have a bike, and I use it daily. I don't have a lot of time, so I try and do 5 miles in the morning, and 5 miles most evenings. Ideally, it'd be better if I did 10 miles in 1 go, but I just don't have the time, what I do now is higher the resistance, so I have to work harder.
