Severe Pain

Hi

Im new here i had my hysterctomy back in may, for about the past week or so i have been having these severe stabbing pains in my upper right side of my abdomen near my shoulder blade. they raidate towards my ribcage, it gets worse after meals and i feel nautious.

My friend seems to think its my gallbladder, i have a family history of gallbladder problems. My mom, aunts and sisters had there gallbladders removed. Does anyone Know what this could be?

Thanx

Hi maria,

Please, please contact your doctor right away. This does not sound like anything connected to your hysterectomy. It does sound like gallbladder but I have no medical background... and it could be other things. You must call your doctor tomorrow morning for an appointment. Promise that you will call?

Severe Pain

Yes, could be gall stones or inflamation of the gall bladder. My dad had an awful attack once, and even went to the hospital. Let me tell you, for that man to go to a hospital, he usually needs to be bleeding out his eyeballs .... so I knew it was bad. For him, it was just an "attack" and they stopped and he did not have to have surgery.

My husband on the other hand 3 monts ago had a full blown infection. It was a mess. They had him in the hosp for 3 days BEFORE they would do surger as he had such an infection. Thing about him was, he is also diabetic, so they have to be careful with him, as he does not heal like a non diabetic. All turned out well, so I was a happy camper. But they said gall bladder pain and stones pain wise is close to that of back labor of women.

I'd say get it checked out quick. I think they can do an ultra sound to see if it is stones... so not too invasive.

Good Luck!

Head for the doctor. Tell the doc what you told us. Hopefully they will do tests, to see if the GB or whatever shows infection, and I had an ultrasound to find my GB stones and that my GB was terribly infected, about to burst, which is very dangerous. Don't wait around. It's a simple surgery, these days. Not like a hysterectomy! Don't eat foods with fat. The GB sends out bile to emulsify fat in digestion. That's when you get the pain if you have GB disease or stones. My stone was lodged in the major duct, causing infecton. Yes, the pain is unbelievable and will take your breath away. It radiates to the shoulder blades, or can feel like a heart attack. I hope you are calling the doc now! We are veterans of all things, from being women. We are tough! You can whip this Thang.

I had GB surgery a year ago and it was a relief to get rid of the pain. I had the same type of pain. Even went to the ER once because it was so bad. They did a small surgery with laproscopy and was back to nrmal in a week.

My sister in law had three prior laporoscopies when she started having the same symptoms you describe. To make a long story short, when they did the laporoscopy to remove her gall bladder it wasn't because of stones or infection, it was wrapped with adhesions from her previous surgeries! Hope you are feeling better soon, life must be miserable when you can't eat because it makes you sick!

Severe Pain

Hi

Thanx for all the posts, the pain is still pretty bad, i have a dr appt for tuesday but if it keeps getting bad i think i am just going to go to the ER, i will keep everyone updated. I really hope its not my gallbladder but i have a feeling it is. Im curious why so many women are having gallbladder proeblems, especially after hysterectomies?

Thanx

Severe Pain

i had my gallbladder removed back in '97.

my pain was right in the middle, where the ribs come together. My first major attack put me in the hospital, they did an u/s to confirm stones, and released me with instructions to call the surgeon on Monday....I didn't call. I found OTC meds that would relieve the pain when it hit. 2 yrs down the road I had another attack that put me in the hospital (attack i mean major pain and throwing up), they used morphine to stop the pain..and sent me home with instructions to call the surgeon on Monday. I did because my dad more or less threatened me lol...had an appt w/them on wednesday and surgery scheduled for saturday..out patient. Well my out patient surgery ended up with me being in the hospital for a wk!! They said it was so swollen and infected that if I wouldnt of had it done I would of been dead within 6 months. Within the last 2 months before surgery I lost 60lbs because I couldnt eat anything without it causing pain.

I hope if yours is GB it goes alot smoother than mine

Good Luck

Severe Pain

Hi Maria

I was in the hair salon today and they described someone with gall bladder problems in the magazine I was reading - sounded just like your symptoms I'm afraid.

Something I remember was that the most likely sufferers of gall bladder problems would be 'Fat, female, fertile, forty and flatulent'. A nice little collection of words don'tcha think ?

Of course they won't all apply to every female sufferer, but it does suggest women get it more than men.

Hope your appointment goes well

Take care
