Question about LAVH

Hi ladies!!

I have a question for those who have had or are scheduled to have a LAVH or TVH.

Did your doc have to perform an episiotomy during the surgery? Has your doc mentioned to you that this is possible during surgery? I heard mention of this somewhere and must admit that I'd never thought of that being a possibility before. My doc sure hasnt mentioned it, and obvioulsy my uterus isn't as big as an 8 lb. baby (even tho' it feels like it!) so I was wondering if anyone has had to have one or if it's routine and I just didn't know it.....

Thanks

Question about LAVH

I had my LAVH in August and I did not have an episiotomy. As a matter a fact, I have never even heard of this being done during this type of surgery. I would think that if something was too big to be removed vaginally, that they would just switch to an open procedure. As in, do a abdominal incision instead of continuing with the LAVH. Check with you doctor, but I havent heard of that being done.

Take Care and I look forward to seeing you on the other side ...........

Question about LAVH

Well, if some surgeons do perform an episiotomy during an LAVH, God Bless those women that have to have that done. I couldnt imagine recovering with a sore belly and a sore bottom!! LOL

Question about LAVH

Hi Bugsy,
I noticed you're scheduled for LAVH. From what I understand, that procedure has the option of removing uterus either by passing it out the vagina, or via the tiny abdominal incisions after first being cut up with a surgical instrument called a 'tissue morcellator'.

Believe me, I know this sounds horrible, but it's not. I didn't want to think of my uterus being removed by a morcellator or out my vagina, either way! (So I try not to think about it) But it makes many of us who are not quite TVH candidates able to avoid the abdominal incision.

I saw from a previous post that your pre-op is coming up soon so you'll be able to ask your doc the specifics of his plan for you. I don't think many docs discuss the details of the procedure to that degree. Sometimes it's too much information, other times it's quite helpful to understand how they go about removing things.

I hope this helps.
Best wishes with your surgery.

Question about LAVH

I found where I saw that an episiodomy may be done...its in the the check points under 1-2 wks post op........

While a vaginal hysterectomy does not have external incisions, if you had anterior or posterior repairs, you may have an episiotomy-like incision

Hope this helps
