1 month & 1 week to go and shaking already

I've still got a month and a week to go before my op and already I'm scared out of my wits. Wondering if my symptoms are all in my mind, lol. I don't have anything like any of you other ladies just horrible periods and tons of pain thats starts 2 weeks before a period and go's on for a week after. All my insides feel like they're going to fall out and the pain is in my abdomen, back and left leg so bad that I hobble like an old lady. I end up doing the cooking sitting on a stool at the cooker. The fatigue and tiredness just knocks me off my feet, initially the doc said it's all down to hormones, been perimenopausal since age 39, had to beg for a hysterectomy. I've been on tridestra for 6 months now although it helps with the flushes and sweats it's not helped any of the pain thats why doc said yes at last to the op and that I'll have a bilateral salpingo oophersomething or other. really wish they hadn't given quite so much notice then I wouldn't have so long to dwell on it. one last question are there any UK ladies using this site would love to hear from you.

Hi Carol

Welcome

I'm sure everybody here will be pleased to greet another sister (but most of our US sisters are still asleep right now because of the time difference!) However there are quite a few of us here from the UK.

I'm based in London and due to have my operation - Total or sub total Abdominal Hysterectomy TAH/SAH for short plus removal of both ovaries BSO and removal of Fibroids, endometriosis, adhesions and just about anything else they can find this coming Wednesday!

I've known about the impending operation for about a month and I agree it's really scary - the waiting has been hell and it's getting worse as the day approaches.

Best advise I can give it to try and keep yourself busy but I do know that's easier said than done.

There's a European Forum on this board too where some of the UK women post

Hyster Sisters > Hyster Sisters Neighborhoods > Hyster Sisters Around the World > Europe

and you can find this from the Forums front page.

Good luck with your impending operation, I'm not going to be around much after Tuesday midday but will catch up with you on the other side of my operation

All the best

1 month & 1 week to go and shaking already

I just had my TAH a week ago and I can agree that the waiting is the hardest part. I had mine scheduled a month before and it was really strange waiting and waiting. All I could do was think of things that could go wrong or just wonder what it would be like. I had had 3 c-sections so I somewhat knew what to expect but it still didnt make me that much less nervous.
All I can say is just to take one day at a time and it will slowly get here and then all your worries will be over. Its really not that bad. The hardest part after was getting up out of bed the first few times and going to the bathroom. After that it wasnt bad at all. I really didnt have much pain except for the headache that the morphine gave me (or atleast we think thats what gave me the headache). Once I quit the morphine I was much better.

Just try and take it one day, one hour, one minute at at time...
Hugs,
Marci

1 month & 1 week to go and shaking already

Hi Dopey Doris

My op is scheduled for 18th Feb, and I've known about it since October!! I must admit I'd put it to the back of my mind til after Christmas and New Year, but now it's in the front of my mind at all times! I've booked leave from work for the week before, so I can get the house in order etc. Also thinking about writing some letters beforehand, for the family, just in case, but keep feeling guilty that I'm allowing myself to think something could go wrong. Thing is, there's stuff I'd want them to know, if things did go wrong. Sorry, sounding a bit morbid I know, an I the only one who's thought like this?

Anyway, good luck with your surgery.

Thanks Marci & Debbie
going to try and keep my mind occupied for the next few weeks like you Debbie will also be writing some letters to my hubby and sons, mother, sister and best mate and no its not morbid to think ltheres a remote chance of something going wrong, its a normal thought brought to the forefront of my mind too as I'm a very heavy smoker who keeps telling herself to give up now but can't. I'm going to go to the craft shop this week and buy a letter seal with my initial on & a caligraphpy pen just to make my letters a bit fancy, sad aren't I. Debbie keep in touch if you like as we're both going through the same stuff right now are you having nhs or private op, I'm on nhs also worried about all this mrsa we keep hearing about on the telly.
