Sub total hysterectomy, now I need my cervix removing. Information, please?

Well, here I am back posting again...............!

I never quite stopped bleeding after my sub total hysterectomy last June, my consultant has decided it's my cervix that's the problem and so I'm scheduled for surgery on the 19th January to remove it.

I've found plenty of info about having the cervix removed and not the uterus, but I'm sure there are ladies reading this site who've had the sub-total and then had to undergo cervix removal.

I don't see my surgeon until the day before my op, and the lack of information is driving me nuts. Like - how many nights in hospital? (Although we tend to stay in longer in the UK than the American sisters) What 'plumbing' was present after surgery, by way of drips, drains, catheter? (Oh yeah, I do know it's going to be a vaginal op).

How long was recovery?
What limitations were you under?

best wishes

My dr also wants to remove my cervical stump. I now bleed/spot 10-15 days out of 30 (at least before my hyst it was heavy but only 7 days) and I have the most miserable painful vaginal cramps that I'm now taking pain pills left over from a nasty bladder infection I had a while back. Woe to me when they run out!

I would think at a minimum you would stay in the hospital overnight which under my insurance means 23 hrs. You may want to try calling your surgeon's office and ask to speak to his nurse. I've often found nurses to be very knowledgable and helpful; many times if they don't know the answer to my question, they will ask the dr and then call me back.

I think the procedure is called a trachelectomy (?sp).
