any sisters in nw in?

Hi Marianne!

I've been in Porter when my grandmother had some heart trouble. Seemed like a very nice hospital - progressive and up to date technology-wise.

I'm not one much for hospital food, but I think the order what you want menu plan is the way to go. There is less waste that way.

Taking your doggies to camp is a great idea. You definitely don't want them jumping or tugging on you.

Is your husband going be able to help you at home when you're recooperating? I understand you take care of your mom. Do you have any sibs coming to help?

Take care,

Rhonda

Hi ladies -

I haven't been on the Indiana area for a while, I just wanted to stop in and say hello.

I know you are getting anxious, but I'm sure your surgeries will go fine, and your recoveries will be better than you expect. If you've been sick from other problems (bleeding, cysts, etc) - you'll be surprised at how much better you feel (as soon as the initial surgery hurting stops.) ! I know that sounds silly, but it's really true!!!

BTW - I work for a Sister hospital in Lafayette, and they are all great. I've heard wonderful things about both St Francis and St Anthony.

Take care ladies!!! Oh yeah................it's spring in the Hoosier Heartland! It's 70 degrees here!!!!

Dear Rhonda

My husband will have to play cook and bottle washer and nurses aide to me all alone. My sister lives in Philadelphia and is coming to town for a few days only. She'll take my mother up to the hospital to visit me and then unfortunately, she's going to put my mother in assisted living. Mom is a little confused about it, but does realize I need rest and sleep. There's a lot of lifting for her (in and out of chairs and settling down for bed). My sister can't stay much longer than a week or so, dh has to do everything.
We'll muddle through somehow. I did extra cooking and froze meals, and he loves to bring in "take outs". Doesn't do a diet any good, but what are you gonna do?

I don't know what my doc is going to do about HRT's. Have a feeling HRT may have contributed to the tumor, but will never know for sure.

Anyway, it's time to get dressed and go see the doc for final visit before surgery. I have 2 pages of questions I typed up.....

Oh, the temperature here is 66 degrees, and I opened up the windows for fresh air! Feels wonderful!

any sisters in nw in?

Hi Marianne,

I'm going in the hospital on a Monday and will probably come home on Wednesday. If I don't pass the "wee wee" test, I get to come home with a catheter. Oh JOY!! My husband will probably take some comp time from work (they owe him) and then my mom will come down for the weekend because my DH has to work on Saturday. I'm hoping that I'll be feeling pretty decent a week post-op that I can hang out by myself.

DH husband is a pretty good cook. Since we've been married (july 24, 2004) we've both put on weight - not the thing I really need to be doing. I plan on getting my house all cleaned up and organized so, if all he can do is pick up, and, at least the place will be somewhat clean. He doesn't like to mop floors, so, I'll probably get a bit creative without hurting myself. I'll still have to supervise the laundry,,,,he doesn't separate colors and it really bugs me.

This first year of marriage has been a real challenge for us as a couple. We were married only a couple of weeks and DH need a biopsy of his prostate which turned out to be cancer. He had a prostatectomy in Oct. 2004 with great results and PSA tests of "0"!!!

Now it's my turn. When I came home from the doc after getting my ultrasound results, I asked him: "Now, who would ever of thought that our first year of marriage would involve getting both of our reproductive tracts re-worked?" We just laughed. We'll just deal with it.

I just worry about being a meanie to my sweetie because my hormones are all messed up.

Talk to you soon,

Rhonda

Hey Marianne!

If it's any consolation, I'm getting anxious too and mine is a week after yours. I'm trying to stay busy here getting things together at home.

Take care,

Rhonda

Hi ladies, don't worry, this will soon be over, and you won't have to worry anymore...take it really easy when you get home from the "castle"....this is your time for yourself to recuperate...give your caretakers and dh, a list with what to do on it, like separating colors, get some chicken noodle soup in stock, easy to make, and you may not have a huge appetite when you get home...I cleaned up my house pre-op, had my "space" ready, ( pillow for swelly belly, lots of water bottles, little hard candies, (boy, your mouth gets dry after hosp. stay) and books, and dh rented some movies when I got home..dont worry or dwell on it too much. you will be ok, and I will be praying for you ...take care sisters..love and prayers, vangoghs kat

Packed my bag today. Includes my new pillow, new makeup (I felt I deserved it...even if I don't wear it), nail file, new night gown, slippers and robe. I'm even putting in a book I bought a few months ago and never got a chance to read. Also taking along a couple bags of decaf tea. Probably wishful thinking that I might even use any of this, but it made me feel good to do it.

Talk to you in a few days.

Hi Marianne,

Wishing you the best. Get a good nights sleep. Sweet dreams tomorrow. After they give you the IV sedation, you'll be on your way to dream land and wake up to the nurses in the recovery room.

Take care,

Rhonda

Janis and Rhonda: How are you doing? The 3 of us were all so close in our surgeries.

I was looking at our previous posts and had to laugh because we spoke about the menu of meals at our hospitals. After my surgery, all I could have was ice chips. Ice chips for 4 days!!! DH would come to visit expecting to have lunch or dinner with me and finally ate before he came. When I was finally allowed to eat, I ordered wheat toast and tea....the best toast I've ever had in my life! Oh what we take for granted.

Hugs,

Marianne
