Thyroid and Hormones
Hello everyone:
I am presently taking bp medicine (clonidine) and also using the vivelle dot patch .05mg. I can't handle the whole patch at once so I have been cutting it in half and changing it every other day. I was doing ok until recently the hot flashes started bothering me so I tried to wear the whole patch. Well as usual my bp went up and I got real jittery so I had to back down to wearing half the patch.
Here is my dilema...since I have been messing around with my hormones I have gotten very dizzy and off balance. I have tried going to the estrace .05mg pills taking half in the morning and half in the evening but I ended up having horrible hot flashes and low blood sugar spells. I ended up going back to wearing the patch. My question is do you think I have messed up my thyroid doing this with hormones? I feel a funny sensation in my throat at times and the dizzies and off balance are so bad. I noticed they were not as bad on the estrace as the patch but i just do better all over on the patch.
I had called my internist about the dizzies and inbalance and she thought it might be inner ear and I took antibiotics and some congestion medicine but it didn't do anything. The only thing that helped was switching from the patch to the pills.
I hope I have not rambled on and someone out there can give me some clue as to what is going on. These dizzies and imbalance are driving me crazy!

Thyroid and Hormones
Hello,
Well, I really don't have an answer, but maybe a couple of suggestions. Where do you wear your patch, abdomen or hip? I've learned from the more experienced sisters that we get more absorption from the patch if it's worn on the hip. So, if you need a little less, maybe wearing it on the front would help. I know after you make adjustments, it can take a while to start feeling better. If the patch is the problem.
I've had a funny feeling in my throat which was caused by thyroid and I've also had a funny feeling which was caused by anxiety.
I would recommend seeing your doctor. Your symptoms might be hormone related and with a little tweaking hopefully you'll start to feel better. But, I would be on the safe side and get checked out just to be sure.
Good luck,
Sharron

Thyroid and Hormones

It's not unusual to have to tweak the thyroid meds while taking hrt. Here's an interesting article about thyroid and hrt:
Thyroid and Hrt
I think it's time for a call to the doc about your hormones and your thyroid meds.
