Ovarian Cysts

I had a TAH,left ovaries on 8/3/2004. In hospital had to have a blood transfusion due to blood loss, came down with pneumonia and have had bladder issues.
Three weeks ago, the pain went back to weeks three and four-now have three cysts on my left ovary, one is 5 cm. Doc has put me on Prometrium 200mg to try to calm down that ovary. Blood tests showed no cancer ,but says I am in menopause. This all sounds a little weird to me. Went for a second opinion, which said wait and see.
Anyone in same situation?

Ovarian Cysts

Hi there:

I'm not exactly in the same situation, but I had a cyst form right before I had my LSH. It was on my right ovary, about 5 cm. My doctor was not that concerned about it and believed it would go away on its own. When I had my LSH, both ovaries looked fine and no cysts were present.

I'm glad you're getting a second opinion on this. It does seem a little unusual to me that menopause would cause cysts to occur, but I'm no expert.

Good luck to you!

It's going to come down to how much pain you are willing to live with. When you can't deal with it anymore, they will take the ovary out. Have you had a CA-125 test?

I had various types of ovarian cysts, and a large one (5-6 cm), (which can be seen in the bottom left photo in my photo gallery). In a period of 5 months, while they watched the cysts via ultrasound, I went from having no pain to being in pain 24/7. I was doubling over in front of coworkers. I was begging for a surgery date, and finally had to go on medical leave without having a surgery date scheduled. (I didn't get to have surgery until one and a half months after I met the surgeon!)

I tried black cohosh to treat the cysts, and it did lessen the pain from them, but it gave me nausea. When I stopped taking it, the pain returned.

I agree with Ravenna3, it's going to depend how much pain you can take. That's what lead me to where I am today. When I started doubling over I went to the DR, I have always had heavy periods and aches and pains but when I doubled over that was enough. When they did the laproscopy and hystroscopy I not only had the endometriosis and a fibriod but also ovarian cyst. One actually "popped" as the DR put it and that's what he thought may have caused the most pain. I had both of my ovaries removed (my choice) even though only one was totally covered in cyst. I have heard talking to other women that endometriosis and cyst seem to increase during menopause and a lot of times they go away. Most me from hormonal changes.
Good luck with your situation!
