what size is your uterus - pregnancy equivalent

A lot of the informaiton I ahve been reading says the uterus is the size of a 12 week pregnancy.

So how big is that?

I can't find a source that equates pregnancy utereus size with dimensions. Can anyone help?

Here's a good reference site - fibroids.uk.net - over on the right side there's a little chart that talks about fruit and belly buttons.

Take care.

Wowee! I just found out recently my uterus size is 14-weeks. I'm bigger than a grapefruit! Certainly explains why it feels so uncomfortable in there!

Juniper thanks nice site.
This really helps. Since I haven't had any kids, and couldn't equate what the doc was saying with my fibroids. Here is the info from the site that Juniper mentioned.

Uterine size

When describing an enlarged uterus, doctors often equate the size of the uterus to the gestation (age in weeks) of a normal pregnancy. When the uterus is relatively small, and cannot be felt in the abdomen, uterine size can be compared to common fruits:

Gestation Uterus
4 weeks Plum
6 weeks Mandarin
8 weeks Apple
10 weeks Orange
12 weeks Grapefruit

When the uterus can be felt in the abdomen, the following rules are often applied, the reference point being the top of the womb:

Gestation Uterus
12 weeks Pubic hair
16 weeks Half way to umbilicus
20 weeks At level of umbilicus
24 weeks Half way between umbilicus and chest
28 weeks At level of chest

I have been wondering this myself. My gyn. told me that mine was the size of a 10 wks. pregnancy, but it is tilted to really severly. He said if he stretched it out it would probably be 12 wks. So, that would be like a orange or grapefruilt. Fruit speaking, who big is your uterus normally?

Wow, that's kind of funny how all the measurements work out.

My doctor said that I was 16 weeks size, but when she got in there, my fibroids were going sideways (like a big eggplant across the back of my uterus).

The ultrasound only showed the largest fibroid as 6 cm, but it turned out to be 11 cms, plus two others that were 6 cms and a bunch of other golfballs.

The whole mess was 630 grams.

Take care.

The docs told me 20 weeks, but I guess it was all really jammed in there. Doctor said he had to use a "sledgehammer" to get it out. (Is it a good idea to joke with patients for whom laughter is a life-threatening condition?) It was 1.5 kg (3.3 pounds).
