Anyone Have To Go To A Urologist?

I am almost 8 weeks post op, and have had 3 UTI's in 6 weeks, which my Ob/Gyn said is WAY too often, so he wants me checked out by a Urologist. ANYONE ELSE HAVE TO GO TO A UROLOGIST??? If so, please write and let me know how it went...I have no idea what to expect! Will he do a pelvic exam?

Anyone Have To Go To A Urologist?

Hi, I went to a urologist back in August. I went because my GP thought I was a good candidate for a bladder sling. Turns out when the urologist did a pelvic exam he told me I had a cystocele. I had to go back in about 3 weeks later to have some test done to measure pressure and how much my bladder can hold. I was told my bladder is very small -- I can only hold 1/3 of what a "normal" bladder is supposed to hold. I was put on Ditropan XL and told to take that to stretch out my bladder. I guess the sling is out of the question until my bladder can hold more. I guess what it boils down to is that I have to live with it. I can't have surgery until my bladder can hold something. I can go a little longer between visits to the bathroom, but when I feel full I better get there quick because I won't be able to hold it very long.

I only had one bladder infection after surgery and my OB wasn't to concerned out it. She said it's pretty common after having a catheder (sp).

Anyone Have To Go To A Urologist?

I have a question about this too. . .

I, too, am going through a major bladder infection. When I saw the doctor for my 6 weeks check-up, he told me that my urine was very concentrated and told me to drink alot more water and gave me an antibiotic to take for 10 days. Today is the 8th day and I feel "a little" better; but when I need to go, it still hurts and I feel alot of pressure down there. Is this common? Shouldn't the antibiotics be working? And why do I feel so much pressure? Did you have these symptoms too? Thanks!

Anyone Have To Go To A Urologist?

That's the way it was for me...somewhat better, but I could still tell it was there. My symptoms were a lot like yours. I went to this site, and could tell that a lot of people were having the same problem, so it was probably just from being bruised/moved around, so I waited to go to the Dr. I even got some OTC meds (Uristat), which helped some, but again, I could still tell it was there. Now the Dr has me on different anti-biotics, (Tetracycline), probably stronger AND a vaginal cream, which was expensive...guess he doesn't want to take any chances....AND I have an appt to see the Urologist Monday.

Anyone Have To Go To A Urologist?

Prior to my surgery, 5 weeks ago, I did go to a urogynocologist at the recommendation of my gyn because I was leaking urine. I had a prolapsed uterus and bladder (cysostocele) probably spelled that wrong.... I underwent a urodynamic study (not too uncomfortable) measured the amount of urine I hold/void and during this exam the dr simulated my hysterectomy/bladder sling to see if I still had leakage. I did not, during this exam, and all my testing was OK, so he did not perform the sling, but did a total lap. After removing my uterus/cervix and tying up the top of my vagina, he said that my bladder popped up where it belongs. So far, 5 weeks out, I still leak when I sneeze, but he said to give it time and let everything fall into place before it is a concern. Yes, this uro/gyno did a pelvic exam, as well as the urodynamic study.

hang in there.... chris

Anyone Have To Go To A Urologist?

I've seen a Urologist and I'm glad I did. I've had a couple of uti's but my biggest problem has been bladder spasms! I'm still having them at almost 6 months post op. They are much better and I'm hoping they'll be gone completely soon. But to answer your question... He did not do a pelvic exam. Of course, there is the obligatory urinanalysis and he did a little poking - but thru my clothes. On one visit he did an unltrasound to determine if I was completely empting my bladder - for that one I just pulled my pants down a little and my shirt up a little. The most invasive exam he has done was an in office cystoscopy. He put a tiny catheter and camera into my bladder to make sure it was physically fine and everything is fine! The cystoscopy was only slightly uncomfortable.

It's possible that you need a different antibiotic to treat your uti. I know I did the first one helped a little but wasn't a complete cure! Be sure to share all your symptoms with the Uro!

Good Luck on Monday - let us know what he says!
