Hello... I also love to read great books, but it does take me a while to get through them. I esp. love a "series" of books to read -- just finished reading Eragon & Eldest. Kids books, but very interesting read... much better than the movie. Now I can't wait until the last book in this triology comes out in August -- hopefully!

Also, looking forward to the last in the Harry Potter series to come out in July... I've already pre-ordered the book. And, Janet Evanovich has a new book coming out this month -- #13.

I've also just finished Jan Karon's Father Tim's series... found myself so attached to all the characters & very sad to finish the last book.

For now, I've moved on to "All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten"... sounds interesting... and it's in my "pile" of books to get through.

I really like this thread as I've already written down some new authors/titles. I have to get a new library card so that I can explore some of these for summer reads!! So many books... so little time

Yipee...

I do love the way this thread has heated up! The new format must have really allowed this to be found easier!

Reading things that "go' together or are by the same author are also a favorite way of mine to read and decide what to read next. I just returned from a trip to Mexico...so I actually re-read "Aztec" by Gary Jennings. I read that many years ago..(maybe 20). It is not an easy read and is over 1000 pages but is great historical fiction. Now I have found there are a few other sequels to that story...bringing the land and the inhabitants more to the current historical period. I am on '"Aztec Autumn" now.

Also for anyone else who likes that genre of writing (historical fiction)...I suggest current author Steven Berry's The Amber Room, The Templar legacy, The Romanov Phrophecy... His books are faster reading than Jennings and usually about 400-500 pages...and have a modern twist by using today's characters involved in some kind of mystery surrounding a historical event or happening...He does a lot of research as did Jennings.

Thanks everyone for participating...I hope we can make this a really active thread!

Hi Ladies...new to this book forum, and now that I have lots of post-op time on my hands I am digging back into my reading. Typically love either the classes or mysteries by Baldacci, Grisham, Cornwell, Patterson, and Deaver.

Just finished today Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See...a wonderful book about women in nineteenth-century China.

Next up on the reading list:
The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards
Red River by Lalita Tademy
Saving Fish from Drowning by Amy Tan
Lisey's Story by Stephen King
The Custom of the County by Edith Wharton
The Pursuit of Happyness by Chris Gardner

By the way, Kite Runner was a terrific read, for those of you currently reading or anticipating reading it.

Thanks, Emily. I'll have to add that to my stack of books to read! If it is written in the same mannor as "Kite Runner" it will be awesome.

A Thousand Splendid Suns, by Kite Runner author, was fantastic. A friend gave it as a post op present & I couldn't put it down...too bad as then it was finished before bed! Whole different track but I've just discovered Bernard Cornwell's Richard Sharpe series..historical battle series but I find then fascinating.

I have been lurking on this site for about a month now. A hysterectomy is in my near future but the date hasn't been set yet. I have really not felt compelled to post (I've learned so much from others posts and the replies) until I read this thread. I was also a huge, flashlight under the covers as a kid reader.

Here are a couple of my favorites:
The Kite Runner and his newest, A Thousand Splendid Suns are both great with the prize going to A Thousand Splendid Suns. Maybe because it is about women - it was great.

I also love Lisa See's Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. I think she has a new one out this past week or so. I haven't read it yet.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned The Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. They are probably my favorite books of all time. There are six of them with the first three being the best. They are set in Scotland in the 18th century.

I just finished These is My Words - can't remember the author. Wonderful survival story about a woman in the late eighteen hundreds.

I am now reading High Noon by Nora Roberts - typical Roberts; entertaining and a fast read.

I also read Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Piccoult. Great book and I believe should be read by high schoolers.

I hope you like my picks.

Just finished James Patterson's Honeymoon. A mystery that is hard to put down. Kept me busy for about a day and a half while taking it easy.

Enjoy!
