Bloody tissue, blood clots or blood in urine, self cath

Hi all. I had my surgery 1.18.05. I have had to self cath everyday since my surgery. Just recently on Sat night I was able to go by myself, but still had to cath for residual amounts.

Yesterday I voided nad that was what lookd like a bloody piece of tissue in the voiding hat.

Then this morning, I have had to go 4 times, 2 of those time when I voiding by myslef, there was this tissue looking thing in the hat and twice when I self cath, this tissue type thing came out and once there was blood in the urine.
Has anyway experienced this.

Thanks
Kim

I had that happen to me when I was self cathing. It happens if you bump the bladder or irritate the urethra, either by forcing the catheter in though the sphincter or not using enough lubricant. Either can cuse blood clots to come out during urination. You should be using the smallest SELF lubricating catheter that you can. Lofric, I found, is the best. I used a size 10 and only had that problem once with those. Also, the type of catheter can be very irritating. Whether silicone/soft plastic, or latex. Latex causes more problems for people. If it keeps up you should call the dr and let them know. What kind of catheter are you using?

I am using a Mentor 14 frnech 6 inch self cath, but that is all I know about it. I called the Dr, but they have yet to call me back. It does not happen everytime, and is had just started,so I feel it may be bladder irritation or something.

I think 14 is pretty standard, but I have a narrow urethra and could not handle that large of a size. Is the catheter yellow(latex) or clearish(silicone)?

It is clear.

And the Dr called me back and they felt like it was pretty common and not to worry about it, unlless I do it like every time. She said other than that just keep a track of when I do it and bring it in on Wed.
