prolapse of the rectum?

Hi
I was looking for information on bowel problems and I found this in the hormone jungle as a reply from surferbabe:

  Quote:
A rectocele is a prolapse of the rectum; that means, the rectum is pushing in or down on the vagina. It can cause problems having bowel movements; I had to "splint" (push on the perineum with my fingers) in order to have a proper bm before my surgery.
I have not heard of a prolapse of the rectum as pushing down on the vagina. I thought it was just when the bowel went through the wall of the vagina.

The GYN that did the surgery laught at me what I told her there was a lot of pressure on my cervix before a bm and told me that was impossible.
My second Gyn when I told her about the problem she said that she could remove my cervix so I wouldn't feel it any more or I see my family doctor about eating and exercising to see if that helps. She also said that if I am having gas and some bm I don't have a bm problem. So I have been just living with it.

I don't have to "splint" for a bm, but I use drink at least a glass of fiber everyday which helps move it though, yet there have been time I have been so backed up to where my stomach won't empty then I'll have a bm.

Who do I see for this problem and what can be done about it?

prolapse of the rectum?

Ever since my first surgery at age 16, I have had to push on the perineum when having a bowel movement. Recently, I have not had to do that as much. I think it's because I have been taking stool softeners, chewable fiber tablets and acidophilus. I never thought of asking the doc to have a look at it. Maybe I should have done that...
