On the edge of mild depression

I just feel rather down lately, I imagine it is my loss of hormones. My doctor put me on the patch, it only does so much. I am in my 4th week post-op, still feel jittery, nerves that is, still don't have much of an appetite, feel as though I want to climb out of my skin, don't even want alot of company yet, am I normal after this operation? How is everyone else feeling?

On the edge of mild depression

Hi Luneib,

I am two weeks post-op and do feel down at times. I have only had a few hot flashes at the beginning. My main problem is that I am freezing a lot and crawl under the comforters.

I am hoping my spirits will lift when the snow melts and I can get outside and walk.

On the edge of mild depression

Hi luneib,

I am almost two weeks post op and think what you are feeling is totally normal. You had major surgery, messed around with hormones, most likely lost a bit of blood, and can't do "normal activities" yet. All that is enough to make anyone blue. Hang in there! Company might be a good thing to cheer you up, provided they are upbeat and sensitive friends.

Sending you happy thoughts and energy....

What you are feeling is perfectly normal. Major surgery, especially one like our is not only physically draining, but mentally and emotionally draining. Be kind and gentle to yourself. I am now at 10 weeks and I remember the overwhelming emotions seemed to be taking over at first. Seems to begin to get better at 6-7 weeks and now I still have moments, but now it is moments instead of constant. Hang in there - we women are very strong creatures and this is something we can rise above!

On the edge of mild depression

Yep -- mild depression here too.

I've found that it is a day to day thing. Some days are good and some are bad, some are REALLY bad!

I'm a little over 8 weeks post op. I'm going next week for an appointment with a new GYN that specializes in compounding hormones. I'm on the lowest dose of the Climara patch and have added an OTC progesterone cream.

I'm on the patch too, mine is called Vivelle, it is 0.05 mg/day. Perhaps I need a higher dosage. I was even thinking maybe I need Paxil.

I'll try to hang in there. I have my good days and bad days too. I seem to be worse at night, well, 'cause I am all alone, live by myself. I've been watching alot of TV but don't really seem interested in that either. I hope these feelings go away soon.

I'm having company over tonight, he is the cheery type so I should feel a little better with him around, he will keep me laughing.

I hope all you guys get to the point where you feel yourselves again really soon.

Hang in there everyone!

Feeling blue

golfdiva, I'm going to ask my doctor to increase my dosage too. I think I need more. I feel the same way and have no motivation to do anything.

On the edge of mild depression

Wow!! It is so nice to know that I am not alone!!!

I have been depressed for quite a while. Not long after surgery. Actually I was a little depressed before surgery, too. Mostly because I was in so much pain from the endo. I wish I would've kept one ovary to see if it would've worked or not gotten endo. Instead I chose to take out the good ovary, too. My doctors said that was the right decision, becuase I had so much it would've come right back. I try to think about that.

One of my doctors-my internal med. dr.-said my depression could be from not being on enough estrogen. However, I can't take more because it makes my breasts sore. And I don't want to take more for the fear of breast cancer.

This dr. put me on Paxil on Tuesday. It takes a couple weeks to really work. I am hoping this helps.

I hope you find some relief.

Paxil

Thanx Marie, I was thinking of asking about Paxil as well. I just want to feel normal again. I hope it works for you.
