Help - Bladder Spasms

Hi. I am 7 weeks post op. Thought that I had a bladder infection last week. Went to the Dr. He put me on antibiotics. Was worse after 7 days. Today I went back to see him. He is sending a specimen to the lab. I tested negative for a bladder infection in the office. He put me on Oxybutynin and Cipro for infection (did not want to take a chance over the weekend). Can any of you give me some insight into Bladder Spasms? Quite frankly I am feeling worse now then when I came home from the hospital. I am due to return to work on Monday, I just don't think that I can do it feeling like this. Help!

Help - Bladder Spasms

Hi ((BB2)),
I am sorry your suffering these...I know how very painful they can be

I experienced them the 1st few months Post-Op and like you, at first thought it was a Bladder infection. When my cultures came back clean, my Surgeon shared how temperamental the bladder can be after any pelvic surgery in which this organ is handled That it can take some time for it to calm down.

You might be able to locate some additional info into this in our Resource Directory...it contains a vast amount of info on various conditions involving a Hyst.

Here is a link to our Bladder section:

Good Luck Hopefully, things will calm down for you soon and you can start feeling better! Please keep us posted on your progress...(((hugs)))

I can relate to your experience. I am hoping you will get answers from the link, I am going to try to see if I pull any more info from it. I am at 10 weeks and still having spasms. Mine are worse at night after I have made a visit to the bathroom. When I return to bed it is very painful. Most nights I get up and take a urispas, which takes time. In years past when I had some sensation of spasm, I would take uristat and, even though it changes your pee to orange, it really helped relax things and I could sleep. I think I might go get some, its over the counter now.

I know drinking water, walking and resting later are all supposed to help. I don't know about you, but I just wasn't prepared for all this.

I hope you get answers and relief! What a road huh?! Thank good ness for this site. Take care, C. Anne
