Rectocele repair?

Hello everyone!
I had a TVH in Nov. and have recently been diagnosed with a Rectocele. Can anyone please tell me what the surgery and recovery is like. Is it fixed for good? I am just a little nervous to go back under the knife. Can they do it with a block or epidural? Any help is appreciated!
Thanks,
Jennifer

Rectocele repair?

Hi Jennifer
I just had my rectocele and enterocele repaired Tuesday. I chose to have a spinal. It was great. I felt nothing and chatted with the anesthesiast and sometimes with my dr. It was a nice atmosphere. My dr asked what kind of music I wanted to listen to. He had the stereo on. I even managed to crack a few jokes back to my dr. I felt very comfortable.
The anesthesiast gave me a little something for nausea. All I had to do was let her know how I was feeling. She had placed a heated matt on me which had warm air blowing into it by a small compressor. I was quite comfty.
My dr. said he would be using a graph material (pig) to reinforce the area. It should hold forever if I follow recovery instructions.
I am 3 days post op now and have had no pain so far. I feel very fortunate. I have some bleeding still, but I think that is normal.Usually the episiotomy type of cut used during the posterior repair causes great pain in recovery. My dr. said he will not use that cut unless totally necessary. He was able to fix both prolapses without using that cut.
My dr. put me totally off of work for 8 weeks. This is to give me time to totally heal up. I have a very physical job.I am then going on 90 days of light weight work. My dr. warned my DH after the surgery if I do too much I would be in a world of trouble. I repair I would need would be pelvic reconstruction. This is pretty much major surgery as far as recovery goes.
I have been pleasantly surprised as to how painfree it has been so far. I only hope that remains.
Be sure to talk to your dr. about all of your concerns. It really helps to be prepared before going into the surgery. My gyn did my surgery. I feel he is very talented to keep me from having any pain. I will not complain!!!
I hope it goes as good for you as it did for me.

Peggy
