Thyroid Issues & Thanks for Your Help

I posted here a few weeks ago. I have been excessively fatigued both before and now after my hyst (I'm 12 weeks post op). Sister has Hashimotos, mother had a goiter and had her thyroid removed, both at about my age.

I got a TSH test done at my ob-gyn in December. It came back 2.88. I came here for help and got some great resources, such as the thyroid health board. I decided to go back to the endocrinologist I had seen about a year before to get a full thryoid panel done. Here is what they found, with reference ranges.

TSH = 3.180 (.35-5.50)
Free T4 = .82 (.61 - 1.76)
T3 Total = 107 (60-181)

Any thoughts/comments? I also got all my records from my endo., and they show the test of a year ago was positive for thyroid antibodies:

Thyroid peroxidase AB = 35.1 (<2)

I know the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists now says that a TSh over 3.00 is hypothyroid. I have my follow up apt. with the endo to see if she will please, please treat me at last. She refused to treat me when my TSH was at 2.5.

I wanted to thank you those of you who helped before, and I'd like to get any input from anyone knowledgeable about thyroid issues and what you think of these labs and what I ought to do to be sure my endocrinologist will treat me.

thanks,

cindybd

If you go to this following website, on the left margin is the question, need the right doctor? Click on this link. You will find
some endocrinologists who come highly recommended in your state.
http://www.thyroid.about.com
My TSH was also always around 3.1, so my doctor said no treatment was necessary. I knew my extreme fatigue level, my family history of thyroid problems, and my history of recurring miscarriages. Finally, I went to an endocrinologist in one of the groups recommended by the above site. They were known
to keep the TSH levels between a 1 and 2. She determined
that I have anti-bodies and was diagnosed with Hashimoto's
disease. I am currently on Armour which has both T-4 and
T-3 since the T-4 Levoxyl did very little for my fatigue.
Good luck! I hope you find a doctor that also listens to
your symptoms.

Thyroid Issues & Thanks for Your Help

Mine was 3.0 a year ago and my regular doc didn't think anything was wrong. Went to an endo last month, and it was 3.5, I am now on .88 of synthroid. still cold and tired but not quite as bad. go back for my recheck on Friday.

Thyroid Issues & Thanks for Your Help

Thank you, locki & texannie. Texannie, I wonder if your dosage needs to be upped. Please let us know what your doc says on Friday.

Locki, oddly enough, my current endo. is on that recommended Dr. list, so she is definitely making somebody happy. I just don't think she will treat below a TSH of 3. At least I hope she uses 3 as the number, not 4 or the outdated 5!!

Either case, with my symptoms, thyroid antibodies and family history, I am sooooo hoping I will finally get the treatment I deserve.

I strongly doubt she'll prescribe Armour, though. I will have to just see if I do OK on synthroid.

I think it might need to be upped to or T3 (cytomel) added.

Hi Locki,
My lab results are almost identical to Cindys. How many mgs. of Armour are you taking? And for how long?
I am trying to start Armour again. Each time I start it I get lightheaded and anxiety ridden.
I would appreciate any input. I recently started a new hormone. It's a troche and with so much progesterone I am so tired and fatigued. It is a chore to do anything.
Thanks,
Trish M.
