Prayers Needed / Possible BSO?
I really don't want to be "here". "Here" is facing that awful BSO option AGAIN. My local gyn has been suggesting BSO for a little over a year, but could not guaranty it would fix me, so I've been saying "thanks, but no thanks". Now I am believing that he's right and I've only managed to delay the inevitable.
I decided something this important required more opinions. So, went for 2nd and now 3rd opinion. I go back [out of town] to 3rd opinion on Wednesday for an ultrasound and a discussion of those results. I know I have done the responsible thing and am getting quality care...........but.............
I AM FREAKING OUT HERE! :hair: Why? Just keep hearing the specialist say "you are going to feel so much better when your ovaries are out". I keep thinking, would a doctor say that to a male patient facing a similar fate? Would it even be considered? Its my left side causing the trouble, so why BSO? I know, ask the doctor on Wednesday.
And, hubby got me worried that the cyst might be cancer. I hadn't thought of that, the doctor hadn't mentioned that and there's only one death in the family due to "female cancer" [that's all we know ... female] and that was my great-grandmother. Might have been uterine or cervical and I don't have those parts. But, part of me is trying to brace for the "C" word, just in case.
DH is coming with me on Wednesday. I need some major hand holding. And, he's actually pretty good at that when the need arises.
Please keep me in your Take all the help I can get.

Oh, Michelle. I will definitely pray for your peace of mind and sound judgement. I know how scary this must be for you. But, you've been so through in your research and you are very informed on your condition. I have no doubt that you will place yourself in the very best, most capable hands. Hopefully, it won't come to BSO but if it does, you will survive. It's obvious from your posts that you are a trouper and this will be a blip on the radar for you. Do you know how it is when you have faith for other people but you can't have that faith for yourself? Well, that's what I'm talking about so please don't think I'm being flippant or minimizing your concerns. And, at least for now, put the "C" word out of your mind if you can. One thing you've got going for you is that, remember, it's not been that long since they've been in there - - what, a year? - - and they didn't see any evidence then did they? So, that's a good thing. Hugs . . .

I am sending s your way. I have a feeling everything will be alright. And yes, it is always easier to think positive for others , than yourself. You have been through alot this year and you are one tough cookie. I am glad you have a supportive DH who will be there to hold your hand. I agree, put that C word out of your head.
I will be saying ers for you.

Michelle, I'm sorry you are having to think about this again. I know it is not easy when you have to start considering going back in. Just keep in mind they are still saying cyst and not tumor, keep thinking positive. I know you will do what is right for you. You are doing the best thing taking your time and doing your research and getting several opinions. You know your body and what is right for you.
I had my left ovary out 1 1/2 years after my TVH, it was wrapped up in adhesions, now I am hurting over on my left side again, it has always been the left side way down low and it probably always will be, but when they go in, there is always something going on, but strangely it isn't down there.
Good luck
Heather

Michelle, have you ever had your endo excised? Not burnt, but cut out by an excision specialist? The doctor is recommending a BSO because he does not want to feed any endo that may be left behind. I have ovarian remnants my whole reason for having the hyst was the have my ovaries taken. Very rarely is endo only on the reproductive organs... only about 5% of the time, so 95% of the time a hyst will not cure it.
The best link I have found that explains it is: endometriosistreatment.org
Sorry this is so tough, I know.

I am so sorry that you have to have so much agony and worry. Unfortunately none of us wants to be "here". I will be praying that you find the answers you need to make the best decision for yourself.
I do understand the anxiety. I had my hysterectomy 3 years ago - I had the right ovary and adhesions removed 7 months ago. I am scheduled for more surgery in 2 weeks to remove more adhesions and whatever else may be causing horrible pelvic pain. There is a chance I may lose my left ovary too. I've tried to hang onto the oaries as long as I could because I really don't want to have to deal with menopause any sooner than I need to - however, the pain is becoming so severe I just want it to end. Everytime I have to have surgery I worry about what they are going to find.
Please let us know how it goes on Wednesday.

Thanks everyone for the support, you're the best! : )
Carrie: I hear you. Just as a side note, the endo specialist I'm seeing has been studying endo for 40 years. He's recommending BSO because my ovaries are malfunctioning and he suspects I have endometriomas in my ovaries, at least the left one and really no symptoms of endo elsewhere. That's why I am going for an ultrasound tomorrow (on some special equipment) so that he can see the size, etc of the cyst(s) and make a recommendation from there. If the cyst(s) are small, then he will try and quiet the ovaries with BCPs. My symptoms are cyclical. I almost cancelled my appointment for last week because I felt wonderful for weeks and thought MAYBE it had finally resolved. If he does surgery, he will hydrodistend the tissues so that he can completely excise any implants. So, if I go for surgery with this one, I'm in expert hands.
 s for all!

Carrie:
Here I am whining about a possible surgery and looks like you are having surgery on the 7th. I will keep you in my
You are a great asset to this community, by the way!
Endo is such a complicated disease and we owe it to ourselves to learn as much as possible ... advocate for ourselves and face the reality that we may know more than some of our doctors. I think you are doing all the endo patients a great service by challenging them in your posts to look deeper into their treatment options.
My local gyn is a wonderful person who really cares about his patients. He's done nothing wrong, I am just at the point where I wanted to make sure I have heard all the options and my local gyn is not an endo specialist. However, whatever this specialist suggests will be run by my gyn before I decide. He will help me think it all through rationally plus he knows my medical history having been my gyn for 5 years and has as much of my trust as I am willing to give anyone.
I am very blessed. Coming here to post and sort it all our really does help. Thanks to all of you for being so wonderful.
