bladder prolapse?

Hi there, I had TAH/BSO in sept. 2003 and rectocele repair November 2004. I am now noticing a bulge at the front of my vagina.
This has always been there but has worsened over thelast few days and is v. uncomfortable. I feel like I did before I had my rectocele repaired although I am not incontinent I do have a little leakage when I am very full or if I jump around too much.
The trouble is that I have an irritable bladder and it has started to play up badly and I think it is associated with bladder bulge. Is this called enterocele or cystocele?
What does operation involve. My gyn said that he would not do my bladder as it could make irritability worse, but that was 6 weeks ago and bulge is much bigger now. He said that if it needed repairing it should be done abdominally but having had one abdominal and one vaginal one, I much prefer the vaginal way.
Also does anyone have bladder prolapse repair done just to ease backache/discomfort etc or is it done for incontinence. If it worsens will I become incontinent. Help please,
Love, Nin xx

bladder prolapse?

I have a small cystocele , so I've been doing research on it. Bladder prolapse is the bladder pushing against the anterior vaginal wall. My dr. saw mine, but thought the sling procedure recommended by a urogyn would take care of things. I could never get in to see the urologist, so I went ahead without it.
I had very mild (barely 1) rectocele and no enterocele diagnosed Oct. 10th when I was first seen by my gyn. By Dec.17th when I had a defedogram done it had became large and would not empty without terrible straining and splinting. That is how fast they can grow! The enterocele also showed up on the test.
Right now I am in the healing stage from the rectocele and enterocele repair. After the swelling goes down I guess I will know what I am left with. I am scared the cystocele will get larger. It had been sitting on top of the rectocele for a long time, which prevented it from bulging down further.
I mentioned to my gyn yesterday how the top left hurts during intercourse with my DH. He said that may be from scar tissue. I never had a vaginal delivery or hysterectome. I have no idea where scar tissue would come there from, unless it would be from my 5 time used bikini incision. If I still have problems there, when this is healed I will push for resolution.
a cystocele is what you are talking about. I know a anterior wall repair is done to fix it. if you also have stress incontinence as I was diagnosed with through urodynamic testing you may need a suspension procedure done along with a anterior repair.
I still may need this done down the road. Time will tell for me!!
Right mow my dr. and I are going to get me through this repair and see what if anyting needs to be done with the cystocele.

I am feeling wonderful and remain pain free!!

bladder prolapse?

Hi Peggy, Thanks for replying, and I am so glad that you are pain free at last. I had urodynamics test done and no mention was made of incontinence. In fact the only time I leaked during testing was at the very end when i was very full and sat down to empty myself. Jumping around I was fine , but that was back in june 2004.
I was diagnosed as having an irritable bladder. I started having bladder problems 6 or 7 months ago. My symptoms were burning and pressure just like cystitis but all the time. When tested for infection it was always negative. I was terrified that I had got Interstitial Cystitis. I had a cystoscopy in june 2004 and again in october2004 when they injected steroids into my bladder. I was told that I definitely didn't have IC, thank goodness.
I then had rectocele repaired as it was v. large and I thought it may be causing bladder symptoms. I also excluded everything acidic, caffeine and alcohol from my diet. my bladder symptoms went away and I began to feel well again. However in the last few days the bulge fron cystocele has got bigger and bladder symptoms have returned. tonight I feel pretty bad. Burning, stinging, backache and bad pelvic pain.
I really don't know where to go from here. Have the bladder problems come back because steroids have worn off or is it because of worsening cystocele?.
Wish I had a uro/gyn in the cupboard to answer all my questions when I needed him.
Do you know if you can have a cystocele without incontinence or does incontinence come as cystocele worsens?
Wish I hadn''t been left to push for hours 36 years ago when my first daughter was born. She was posterior position and there was a nurses strike on so I was left on my own all night That was when the damage was done. happily I don't think it would be allowed to happen nowadays.

Best Wishes, Nin

bladder prolapse?

Nin
I just read where a cystocele can cause two things to happen along with discomfort.
1. urine leakage
2. uncomplete emptying of the bladder.
type in cystocele and hopefully you will get alot of helpful info.

I hope mine doesn't get any worst. I also have mild stress incontinence. I wished I would have waited for my repairs and had a urologist place a sling in there at the same time. I was impatient and didn't want to go any longer with such terrible bowel problems.

Now I will always be thinking in the back of my mind that my cystocele will get bigger and that would mean another operation down the road!

bladder prolapse?

Hi Peggy, I too wish I had had cystocele repaired when I had rectocele done.
I am having varicose veins repaired on 20th april and 1st june 2005 so will think about cystocele repair after that ( unless it gets much worse), and I have a horrible feeling that it will. I seem to notice a deterioration as soon as I lift, strain or do anything without thinking. If cystocele is that fragile then I don't think I will be able to wait too long.
I was going to start pilates classes but reading some of these threads, I don't think that I should. It is meant to strengthen pelvic floor and gyn told me it would be good for me ,but I think that I will give it a miss.
My rectocele op was very easy but abdominal hysterectomy was not, so hope if I need cystocele doing that it can be done vaginally.
Hope you continue to feel well
Best wishes,
Nin xx
