switching from climara to v-dot

Hi
I am having a reaction to what I presume is the adhesive in the climara .1 patch. My skin is very itchy under the patch and when I remove it, there is a rash where the patch was. Also, I am having trouble having it stick for the 5 days I am prescribed to wear it. My physician suggested switching to the twice a week .1 V-dot. Has anyone else made the switch because of skin irritation and are they same as far as you can tell as far as your estrogen levels are concerned? I am now just starting to feel good and I do not want to relapse from a change. My physician assures me that they are the same type of estrogen and dosage. Thanks, Judie

Hi Judie

I don't have any experience with either of these patches but from all the reading I have done on this site I do know that it's not uncommon for women to switch from Climara to Vivelle Dot for the reasons you are being changed. They do very well on Vivelle!

I hope they will share their success stories with you and I hope your change goes well.

Climara vs. Vivelle

Hello,
I too experienced an allergic reaction to the adhesive from the
Climara patch. I thought perhaps switching to a smaller patch
that was changed twice a week would improve the situation, but
adhesive is adhesive, and I had a reaction to the Vivelle dot also.
I am now receiving estradiol injections every three weeks which are working wonderfully well for me, except for the inconvenience of planning trips to the docs office. Good luck, Nita

switching from climara to v-dot

hey there... i am just about two weeks shy of my one year anniversary and I experienced just hwat you are describing concerning the climara and the v dot. I switched to vdot last summer and havent looked back. it works great and sticks really really well. i thinkthe idea that all it has to stick is for around 3-4 days instead of the 6 or so and its smaller so your clothes dont effect the patch as much. it works better for me... good luck!!

I had to switch from Climara to Vdot as well due to irritation from the adhesive after about 6 months. So far, no difference except I do like the smaller patch and changing it twice per week.

Hi:
I believe that the Climara is made from Soy while the Vdot is made from wild yam. But I am not 100% on this. Surferbabe knows about this because I believe she posted this explanation a while back. Lucy

Vivelle

Hi! I switched way back to the smaller vivelle dot- it sticks SO MUCH better then Climara! I had no problems at all with irritation from vivelle's adhesive either. Don't let the twice a week thing worry you- no big deal! I put the reminder thing on my bathroom mirror and never had a problem.
Note- I no longer use vivelle - switched to FEMRING due to persistent vaginal problems.

switching from climara to v-dot

My doctor put me on Vivelle.dot 0.1 right away. I did have the climara patch in the castle and it itched and I had some irritation when I took it off. I have no problem with the vivelle but I do have a question I need help with.

I originally was going to do Sun/Wed changes but forgot to change it until Friday the first week. I did not sleep well on that Thur and Fri night and was wondering if it ran out and that's why?

To me the schedule they have on there is weird. I had changed it on a Friday and the Friday was Friday/Monday. It seems like Monday to the following Friday is too long, especially since the Monday schedule is Mon/Thur. I changed it this morning and for the past 2 nights I haven't slept well. I am thinking of going ahead and switching to Sun/Wed schedule this Sunday since it seems more balanced during the week.

Can anyone tell me how they are reacting to it and which schedule seems to work the best?

thanks!

I used to change my patches, say if it was the Friday/Monday schedule, I would have changed on Friday morning then on Monday night...Friday morning, Monday night....etc.etc.. That way the dose would have to last 3 1/2 days. After awhile, that didn't work for me. I find changing the patch every 3rd night is what works best for me in terms of how I feel.

That's what I was thinking of trying too. Right now I don't have problems between Friday and Monday, but I do have trouble sleeping by Thursday night, sometimes on Wednesday, but I was changing them in the morning. I put a new one on Friday morning and slept fine Friday night.

I was thinking of trying the Sun/Wed schedule since if I had insomnia on Saturday night at least I didn't have to work the next day

Thanks for your input.
