Palpitations/short of breath

I have been on natural hormones about 3 months-had hysterectomy 10/27. Is anyone experiencing shortness of breath and heart palpitations? I'm 53 and wonder if I need to have hormones adjusted. I had heart palpitations before hormones and my cardiologist said they are normal-I don't believe that. He never has taken me seriously since I've seen him. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this and what they did for it.

Palpitations/short of breath

Heart "palpitations" (probably tachycardia) with shortness of breath (SOB) is NOT normal. I've had tachycardia all my life, and when I get it, there is SOB. Quit going to that doctor and find a cardiologist. They will test you for everything to find out what kind of arrhythmia you are having, if it can be controlled by meds, and they'll do echocardiograms, electrocardiograms, etc. It's painless, and so revealing. There can also be blood tests, and so on.

If you are having these symptoms at this moment, then go to an emergency room and they will have to do the necessary tests to rule out certain problems. Be safe, not sorry. It may not even be a heart problem, but could be another problem, causing your heart to do that.

Palpitations/short of breath

Hi Robyn,

I have found that when it is time to change my patch (Climara 1mg.) I start to get the palpitations. After I change it they go away. I use to have them occasionaly before hyst, but not that often.

Palpitations/short of breath

Hi ladies,

For what it's worth, I get palpitations when I don't manage my blood sugar correctly...I'm hypoglycemic (low blood sugar). Just FYI, these heart "races" are sometimes related to other things aside from hormones or actual heart ailments.

Of course, you should check the more serious possibilities first, to be safe, but it could be something innocuous (and harmless), like what I have experienced.

Just my , as you all have helped me so much!!!

Hoping it's nothing serious!!!

Blessings to you...

Palpitations/short of breath

Hi Robyn

There can be many different causes for heart palpitations and shortness of breath. Hormone imbalance is indeed one of them. Have you looked over the list of symptoms of too much/too little estrogen, progesterone and testosterone? You'll see shortness of breath and heart palpitations under both low estrogen and low progesterone. Obviously there's no way to say if that is what is causing your symptoms but it's something to consider when talking to your doctor.

Let us know what you find out, okay?

Palpitations/short of breath

Thanks everyone. I am seeing another cardiologist Monday about all this. I was so surprised to see how low hormones can cause heart palpitations and shortness of breath. My blood levels have gone down since I had my hysterectomy in October even with taking natural hormones! I thought things would have improved instead of going farther downhill. Before I had my hysterectomy my Estridiol was 32 now its 18! I was told it should be 150-400. I wonder if I'll ever get my hormones balanced.

Palpitations/short of breath

Hi. I'm glad to hear you're going to another cardiologist. After being tested by mine, the low estrogen levels were found to be the culprit of both the SOB and palpitations, although I also have MVP (as do many people), but it is very mild. Hope you have a resolution soon. Take care, Gal.

Palpitations/short of breath

After reading this, I wanted to say that I forgot to put a new patch on after a shower in the morning and that evening , before I remembered, my heart was racing alittle. I wondered it it had something to do with not wearing my patch all day. I had been on it for about a month or so at that time.
