5 months post op pain

I am 5 months post-op from a full abdominal hysterectomy for endometriosis. I was a perfect angel and didn't do anything remotely physical for the first 10 weeks. My problem is I am still sore in the abdominal area, my doctor says it's my nerves healing. It hurts most, right after intercourse with my husband, (sometimes it makes me nauseous) and the pain continues for days. Please tell me it won't be like this forever.
On a good note, I finally lost the 20 pounds I gained after surgery!!

5 months post op pain

Karen,

Hello, I am sorry that you are still having pain. It can take up to a full year to fully recover from this surgery. So although you feel that 5 months is a long time, really it isn't. Take it easy and rest when you feel this pain. But if it is extreme pain then I would be sure and call the doctor again. Mild pain and discomfort and swelly belly is still common even at this stage. It does get better as each day and week pass. But again, if it is anything other than mild discomfort then I would call the doctor.

tah 3 1/2 mos. ago

I have discomfort on my left side - it feels like an area t hat has never healed. Bruised and occasionally twinges.I finally called my md. who said when she checked me out at 6 wks. my abdomen was fine and maybe it's just some scar tissue. Or intestinal problem!

Her comments did not help me one bit. She made it sound like scar tissue would not get better with time. I just want to know if everything's ok. I may go in to have her look at my abdomen - or else go get another gyn altogether.

5 months post op pain

I had a TAH/BSO on Sept 19th. I still have a lot of sensitivity in the abdominal area, especially around the belly button. Whenever I do any type of exercising, even if it's walking on the threadmill my belly swells up and hurts for the entire day. I just joined a gym this past week, because I'm determined to get rid of this swollen ab. aI called the dr. and she said I am able to resume all my regular activity pre-surgery and that I shouldn't have all this swelling. But of course, she couldn't answer me as to why I feel this way. Said she'd see me at my next appt in 2 weeks to speak to me about the problem I'm having. That from a female dr. I think once these doctors perform surgery, they lose all that bedside manner that they had before. I've certainly gotten much more advice and comfort from the Sisters. God Bless you all!

almost 5 months since surgery

Sister Jackie,

I was just "thumbing" through the messages when I came upon yours and if I hadn't known, your posting could have been my own!! I too will be 5 months post-op the 19th of this month, March and I still have the swelly belly and it seems to get larger if I spend a day doing normal activities. My doctor, which is also female told me to expect it, it was nothing out of the ordinary and it would disappear. My doctor has been very helpful to me and has tried to make me understand that I am still rushing my recovery and knows how frustrated I am because there are women that have already recovered a lot faster than I have but she told me in my case, not only did I have a TAH, I also had a mass that could have been cancer which thank the Lord it was not, but this was on top of the normal surgery and would take longer to heal. She has put me on Estratest and has me also taking Celexa which is an anti-depressant to help me. So keep the faith Jackie, I know sooner or later we will all be back to "normal."

Hugs,

~Royjean~

I'm 3 and a half month post op with an abdominal hysterctomy keeping in my ovaries. I too have swelly belly and pain after or sometimes during intercouse and just standin up to the conter to wash the dishes can be painful when the counter touches my stomach. I am working and exercising, determined to be fit. Sometimes I think I push myself too much. I also have recurring bladder infections. Hope all you ladies are gettin better. its a long time since you wrote. I would be interested in hearing how goes the process.
