Has anyone broken any bones since TAH/BSO?

Hi everyone! I just wanted to ask if any of you have broken any bones since your hysterectomy?

I have just celebrated my one year hysterversary on January 23rd of this year. I was elated to pass such a milestone!

Well, one year, one week and one day after my hysterectomy--I broke a toe--big time! I saw the podiatrist yesterday. The toe is broken in half and at a diagonal angle. My podiatrist said that it will take me longer than the 6 to 8 weeks to heal.

He told me that my bones didn't look very good on the X-rays. I have always broken bones easily. When I was a little girl the doctor told my parents that my bones were as brittle as an 80 year old woman.

I had hoped that I had strengthened my bones since all during the 80's and 90's, I jogged and lifted weights and took calcium supplements. I'm still as active as I can possibly be--which is not so great at this time.

I am on estrogen now and have been since surgery. I also have taken calcium on a regular basis. I will need to speak with my gyne about this latest finding. I'm afraid of osteoporosis.

I also hate having this broken toe. It's my third broken toe on the same foot. You'd think I would learn to wear shoes at all times.

So, has anyone else broken any bones since their surgeries? Thanks for any replies!~Moonchime

I am surprised that with your medical history no one has suggested a Dexa scan (bone density test). Perhaps based on that you will need to take a drug for osteoporosis. There are many of them. You should also have a medical professional assess your Vitamin D intake. Exercise and calcium aren't enough to prevent osteoporosis- you need to have adequate Vitamin D for calcium absorbtion.

Best wishes.
