Home from LAVH/sling procedure questions

Hi everyone,

I just got home from the castle today after LAVH and bladder repairs/suspension. The LAVH went fine, bladder has been a little frustrating. I didn't expect so much pain. I bled a lot from the bladder surgery and then had low blood pressure thus the reason for the extended stay. During my stay there were lots of problems with my catheter (long story)! They put in a foley and a suprpubic. Foley finally came out and yesterday I started my training. Not going great so far. Lots of residual, and most of the time very mininal voiding on my own. Anyway, the URO put me on IV antibiotics in the hospital and then sent me home with Levaquin (another antibiotic) to prevent possible UTI. Now for my question. This morning I woke up with a horrible back ache. I just attributed it to the hospital bed, trips in and out every hour for the voiding, etc. but it's getting worse and I was wondering, could this be a UTI? They did a ton of blood work at the hospital, but no UA's? Would the blood work show a UTI coming on? Tonight when I try to void (before releasing the residual) it really burns. It has been burning for the most part since I had the surgery, but it feels like it is getting worse. Does anyone that has had the sling procedure have any input about how you felt afterwards?

Thanks, JMW

Home from LAVH/sling procedure questions

i had a sling put in (monarc hammock) a year ago and had no problems with UTI's or pain afterwards, other than the dreaded pain from being in that awful hospital bed. The backache youre experiencing I was going to say possibly the bed/positioning, however when you mentioned the burning and the pain getting worse I would bet that you've got a UTI going on. Put a call into your Dr's office and explain to them your pain/burning/voiding problems (the low void could be from an infection); the Dr will probably have you come in for a U/A and also change your antibiotic.
