enough anesthesia?

I am wondering how they know how much is enough? I had foot surgery a couple years ago and kept waking up. Yes, it did hurt. I won't scare anyone with the details. When I had surgery for a breast tumor I woke up as I was being stitched up. Do I have a tolerance to anesthesia?

Before you go into surgery, you will meet with the anesthesiologist. You should tell him/her about your previous experiences. I had the opposite of you: I was too out of it for two weeks in my previous surgery. I explained this to my anesthesiologist preop, and thing went really well for my hysterectomy and I had no problems.

enough anesthesia?

just realised it has happened to me, i was 16. im 33 now and some how i had forgotten.
i woke up too early, spear you the details also, but basically i had sevear nightmares that needed sleeping pills for almost 5 months post op.
so i will be presenting that to the anesthesiologist before hand.

thankyou for helping me to remember..

i do remember some dialogue - (there was a big panic and the surgen said "waite a miniute shes not ment to be awake yet")
hope the nightmear does not return, (it was somthing to do with a giant bee stinging me.) (the old pain association thing).

thanks agian
take care..

I think you're right to be concerned and it's a good idea to deal with this up front.

A couple of things to think about. One is using a spinal block/epidural + sedation for surgery. There are quite a few women on these boards who have used this method for their surgery and you should be able to find some older threads about this if you search for "epidural."

The other is to have a complete consult with your anesthesiologist ahead of time. See if you can get the surgery notes from your previous procedures so that your new anesthesiologist will have complete information about what you were given and when so that they can design the right cocktail for this surgery.

Lots of people react in different ways to drugs, the good news is that there are a lot of different drugs available these days so perhaps they can find the right mix for you.

Let us know how your consult goes.

Take care.
