Low Estrogen or Yeast Infection

Hi Everyone:

I have recently finished a round of Macrobid and Urogesic for a bladder infection. I ended up going to the OBGYN because I still have irritation from my belly button down. I guess that is my Urethea (sp?). The doctor said everything looked ok as far as
my urine tested and offered me more Urogesic for a few more days. I am feeling better but I still have the sensitivity around my belly button down and it feels like I have a deep itch but no discharge or itching around the outside. When she checked me she said I was still real sore around my bladder.

Before I started all this I thought it was a yeast infection so I used the Monistat 7 only for 3 days because it started buring me so bad and that is when I got the urgency to go to the bathroom and ended up calling the doctor.

I am on a low dose of v-dot .25 mg changed every other day because of high blood pressure. The doctor gave me some Estrace to use vaginally but I have not done it yet because of all this stuff going on.

So my question to you is do you think this is a yeast infection or low estrogen. Don't know whether to call my doctor back or just try the estrogen and see what happens.

Low Estrogen or Yeast Infection

Hi I would see the DR for a swab to check to see whether or not you have an infection (yeast or bacterial). Treating either one without getting a definite diagnosis can be counterproductive.

I'd also start using the Estrace cream right away. Low estrogen can cause vaginal dryness and urethral atrophy (which leads to the urgency you're experiencing), and can also leave you much more susceptible to yeast infections. Your patch dosage is very low, much too low to keep the vagina healthy; that's why your DR would have prescribed the vaginal estrogen too.

I hope the Estrace cream helps you feel better soon!
s,
-Linda
