I had the myomectomy!
Hi Kittycats,
I'm glad everything is going so well for you. It's encouraging to hear. Today I am 15 days post op. I feel really good. I'm so happy I found my doctor. A lot of doctors won't even do a myomectomy especially on older women. I was so anemic for a whole year so I am really hoping to have a better life now. Yours was like a handball? Oh my gosh that must have been painful for you. I had more pain before the surgery than I do now and I just got used to that. I have been walking a little and doing some yoga at home. Thanks for writing and take care.

I had the myomectomy!
Hi ilikemyuterus!
I'm glad to hear your recovery is going well. It sounds like you are very happy with your decision to have the myomectomy. I hope that you will recover quickly from the anemia, too.
I went to my 2nd opinion and the urologist yesterday. I did not like the manner of the GYN (2nd opinion) at all. He recommended UAE, but could not answer any questions about it. He just wanted to refer me to an interventional radiologist. When I told him I didn't want to do UAE, he told me why I wasn't a candidate for all of the other options...which was really no surprise to me. Then he started talking about the UAE again and I got firm and said, I am not interested in having that done...then he told me not to take an attitude with him! Okay...so that was pretty much the end of the visit. He did say that if I chose hysterectomy, my original GYN's plan was what he would recommend, but that his recommendation was UAE...yeah, I got that!
I was really frustrated when I got to my car, on the verge of tears. I have been waiting for this appt since November and when I arrived, I was the first patient at 8:30am. I could hear him chatting with his staff. He did not walk into the room until 9:30am, chewing gum and in a hurry. He is the head of OB/GYN at a hospital with an excellent reputation, but was clearly not interested in having me as a patient. As my DH said when I told him about the visit..."Well, some people just look good on paper!"
One thing I did take away was a renewed appreciation for my original GYN's manner, knowledge, patience and ability to explain things clearly. I was in pain after the pelvic GYN #2 did (not his fault) and I realized that I can't keep going on like this forever and I know it isn't going to get better on it's own.
In the afternoon I went to the urologist. When I arrived I was told that he had been called out to emergency surgery, but the PA would see me. He was wonderful! He explained why I need the urodynamic testing, what it is and how it will be done. He was so encouraging, telling me that I am too young to be a slave to the inconveniences and embarassment of the leaking issues. The office is going to call with a testing date and then we will go from there.
I have decided to go ahead with the surgery. It is such a relief to have finally made an informed decision and choose it...not to be backed into a corner and have it forced on me. After the uro testing, if I need the suspension, then the two offices will coordinate a surgery date. If I don't need one, I will call and schedule the date.
I fell more relaxed than I have for a very long time!
Keep healing and doing everything your doctor says and feel free to e-mail me sometime. I'd love to hear from you!

I had the myomectomy!
Hi ilikemyuterus
I'm surprised that you came across doctors that wouldn't offer you a myomectomy. Two of my three opinions thought that a myomectomy works better for older women than younger ones since older ones are closer to menopause and have less of a chance of experiencing a repeat performance by new fibroids (or, at least as awful an experience as before surgery). I'm fully aware that new fibroids can show up at any time . I'm just hoping that if they do and if they start giving me problems again, I'll either be able to hang in there 'til menopause or ask my doctor for either asoprisnil or mifepristone, both of which will hopefully be approved by the FDA by next year for reducing the size and symptoms of fibroids.
I'm glad to hear that you're doing so well!
Believe it or not, the pain will subside quickly. After 4 weeks time, I found I could laugh and sneeze without any discomfort.
Wow-yoga sounds like a really good idea.
Please take care and have a speedy recovery!
Please take care!

I had the myomectomy!
Hi Maggiemay!
Sometimes I think the worst part is being faced with differing opinions and not knowing what to do, especially when the doctor makes you feel so uncomfortable! I felt that way for months until I found my current doctor.
I'm glad you feel confident in your decision and I hope everything goes well for you!
Take care !

I had the myomectomy!
Hi Maggiemay, I know you are making your best decision because you feel that releif. I remember the first time I went to my new doctor who did my surgery. I was so exhausted and anemic but I felt such an emotional releif. I will keep you in my prayers. It meant so much to me that morning of my surgery when I saw a message from you on my computer. That was just 16 days ago and it feels like a crazy blur. I'm sorry that new doctor was not nice to you and I'm glad you are back with your old doctor you like. It's funny what your husband said about looking good on paper. I will be thinking about you so keep us posted.
And Kittycats, I'm glad to hear that the pain goes away after 4 weeks. I am doing well and glad you are too. I don't see too many posts from women who have had myomectomies. My first doctor I went to really tried to scare me about it. Maybe where you live in L.A. you have more progressive doctors. Anyway I sure am glad I found my doctor. Take care both of you.
