Upcoming hysterectomy

Hi All!

Just trying to learn the ropes here. Visisted the Doc today and finally came to the conclusion for a hysterectomy.

Abdominal incision due to big fibroid on big uterus which is far up and an unbelievably small pelvis.

Trying to figure out whether to remove ovaries or not. Have lots of research to do. I am 46, 47 in October.

Advice is welcome. I don't want to make an uninformed decision that leaves me with wild mood swings, no sex drive, overly fat and flushing all the time.

It's good you are asking questions and making an informed decision.

On this site there are some good sources of information which will help you. Click the Hysterectomy Info link and you'll see links to the Pre- and Post-Op Articles and Checkpoints. Those will help prepare you for what to expect and offer great tips.

You are welcome to post questions and concerns as you think of them on the Pre-Op message board prior to your surgery. After surgery you will use the Post-Op board for recovery concerns.

As to your ovaries, if they are healthy, consider keeping them. It's a good idea to keep as many healthy organs as possible.
