Hi. I am 5 weeks post op (TAH/BSO), and I have been on an emotional rollercoaster. I can't take HRT. Is anyone else experiencing this? I don't get angry, I just start crying. Even now, reading some of these messages -- good or bad-- I start crying. Some days I'm fine, though. Do you think it is the hormone imbalance? Or can it be from the surgery still?

One note I have to mention. I was crying much of the morning (which started around 3:30 since I have trouble sleeping). A dear friend called me. When he heard how sad I was, he left work and drove half an hour one way just to take me out to lunch.
Of course, I cried because he did such a sweet thing.

Anyhow, any suggestions on getting the crying under control?

Hi michaelat.

Honestly, I think what you're experiencing is perfectly normal. Our bodies are in a bit of chaos following a hyst. and removing the ovaries.

After having one ovary removed last year, I began having night sweats and would cry for absolutely no reason. I even had my doctor check my hormone levels this past January since I would cry for absolutely no reason. I ended up having the left ovary removed almost two weeks ago. I'm not taking any HRT (waiting to see if I'll need any) and so far haven't burst into tears like I was. But I certainly don't think what you're going through is a bad thing.

And for your friend to come out and take you to lunch -- what a wonderful and caring friend. That was a very kind gesture. I hope you enjoyed your outing with him!

Take it easy, and be well.

What a sweet friend you have!

I had started noticing last year, before my TAH, that I would get more emotional then usual over things that would never have affected me before. I can't even watch Little House on the Prarie without sobbing sometimes! I've shed tears over get well cards, songs on the radio, even silly commercials. Now, is it related to peri-menopause or menopause? I dunno. I'm now 2 weeks post surgery with no HRT, and so far my emotions haven't changed. No improvement, no deterioration. My mom seemed to have gotten weepy as she got older too. No depressed at all, but she sure could cry at the drop of a hat if the stimulus was right. She sure wasn't like that when I was kid.

Happy healing thoughts to all us princesses.
