pre-op today for LAVH/BSO
All systems are go. I think. I had my pre-op today with the surgeon. He did the exam and at first said he wished my uterus was hanging a little lower but then later said, there is a very, very good possibility of LAVH and only a remote possibility of TAH with a very small incision. He said he'd just done one (LAVH) last week with someone whose condition was very similar to mine. She's doing great! He said I could drive in a week if I felt good enough. He also suggested that I have blood taken by the Red Cross in case I need it, a pint a week for 2 weeks. He said healing is faster if it's your own blood. According to him, it's kind of a charm against having to use the blood if you get it done ahead of time. Something I hadn't thought about.
Coin-ky-dinks. The nurse who assisted him is the same young lady who set her parents' bushes on fire, smoking a cigarette outside her parents' home before her mother got home from work one day. The fire department came, and we never told her parents she'd started the fire. She's my neighbor's daughter!
The bad news is that he only uses general anesthesia and a stinking throat tube. My daughter had surgery with a throat tube and said her throat was sore for days. Are all LAVHs done that way?
Be sure to tell the doc if your delivery was by forceps. He said it stretches the vagina which is useful to him. He needs space to do his work.
He also had no problem with keeping me on the 2 mg. of Estrace I've been taking after the surgery. I told him if I didn't have it, I wouldn't sleep for days. We both agreed that I'd like to get the dose down to 1 mg.
March 11 is the big day.

_____LAVH/BSO on 2/11, irregular cycles, bleeding, hemmoraging, and every menopausal symptom known to womankind, 7 years of meds that didn't work, an ablation where the lining grew in the same thickness after 8 weeks. The end is in sight!
