Anita,
Luckily I have not had an infection with my TAH on 11/30/04, but I did have one with my C-section 16 years ago. I did have to have it drained, but my OB/GYN made 2 small holes one on each side of my incision which twice a day a bottle filled with anti-biotics was inserted slightly and the meds was squeezed into the incision, and holes were left open to drain. It actually didn't hurt at all. My incision was still numb from the C-section. The worst part was that I couldn't do it myself. I had and still have a roll of fat above the incision area and I couldn't see what I was doing, so my mom or my DH had to do it for me. But as far as pain, there wasn't any. So try not to sweat it too much, and I'm sure everything will work out just fine.
Sending s your way!

-Lisa
