maximum dosage estrogen?

Hello:

I am taking Climara patch .1 mg, and am wondering whether my estrogen might still be low. Is there a way to increase my estrogen, or is this the maximum that one is allowed? (I know it might be maximum with the Climara, but is it the maximum estrogen that anyone can safely take?

My doctor won't do hormone testing, so I'm not sure how to get consideration for the possibility of low estrogen.

Any advice is much appreciated!

maximum dosage estrogen?

Hi Caryn There are women posting here who use more than one patch. It's not the norm, but it's possible. It all depends on how well the estradiol absorbs through your particular skin- everyone is different. The 0.1mg/day patch is rated to deliver an average of 0.1mg per day of estradiol, but that's just an average - some women get more, some less.

If you're not getting enough estrogen from your patch (ie having symptoms of low estrogen), I'd ask the DR about either to patches (say 0.1 plus .025 to start), or switching to a different form of HRT. Women who don't absorb well through their skin, and still want to avoid that first pass through the liver that we get with oral meds, may sometimes find the sublingual methods (troches, tablets or drops) more efficient.

I hope this helps!

-Linda
