Premarin v. Climara patch
Hi. Went for my last post-op visit today. I told my doctor that the Climara patch has been causing a lot of itching and rashes since I started using it in January. He switched me to Premarin 0.625 mg. I am concerned about taking the Premarin because of what I've heard and read about how it's made. I'm inclined to stick with the Climara patch and endure the itching and the rashes. Thanks!
<admin. note: Ladies, please remember in replying to this thread that the methods used in the production of Premarin are considered a 'hot topic' and may not be discussed on this site, out of sensitivity to some of our members for whom Premarin is the only HRT that works and who deserve our support too. Thank you!>

Premarin v. Climara patch
Hi Lynn Did you express your concerns to your DR? What did he/she say? There are many other alternatives besides just the Climara patch and Premarin; surely one of them would work for you.
The itching and rashes you were having on the Climara... were they all over or just where the patch was? Skin sensitivity to the adhesive is a fairly common issue with some of the patches. If the problem was just under the patches, you could ask your DR about trying a different brand patch (Vivelle dot tends to cause less sensitivity problems than most).
If you'd rather not use a patch, and want to try a pill, you could ask the DR for samples of Estrace to try. It's the same estrogen that's in the Climara patch, but in pill form. Premarin is a completely different product. JMHO here, but if your only problem was with skin sensitivity on the patch, and you were otherwise doing well on it, I'd want to keep the same estrogen and just switch how it's delivered, either to a different brand of patch, a cream, sublingual drops or a pill, rather than switching to a whole different type of estrogen.
I hope this helps!
s,
-Linda
